Win FREE Vegan Meringue Cookies!

Traditional meringue cookies are usually made from little more than egg whites and sugar. A recipe that has eggs as one of its only two ingredients might seem hard—OK, impossible—to veganize, but Angel Foods has released a new cookie mix that is making it a whole lot easier.
You may remember the name Angel Foods from a Veg Cooking Blog contest a while back to give away its vegan marshmallow kit. Well, Angel Foods has now released a vegan meringue cookie kit that requires just water, sugar, a mixer, and a good dose of patience to make those airy and light French cookies you might be missing.
Now is your chance to win one of these kits and test it out for me! We’ll be giving away one vegan meringue cookie kit on The VegCooking Blog and one kit on PETA Living. All you have to do to enter is leave a comment and tell us about your favorite cookie. Be creative, and please make sure that your comments are vegan-friendly!
And now for the legal stuff: The contest ends on October 17, and winners will be selected and notified by October 24. You should also be sure to read the contest terms and conditions and PETA’s privacy policy before you comment—you’re acknowledging that you have read and agree to both by leaving a comment.

My favorite cookie is a grea old fashioned oatmeal cookie. Applesauce can be used instead of eggs. Makes me feel great and brings back fabulous memories as does a good old fashioned Joe Frogger. An old New England molasses cookie.

September 27th, 2008 at 11:05 pm
We make the regular chocolate chip cookies and substitute flax seeds and water a replacement for the eggs. This way we can even eat the raw cookie dough.
September 28th, 2008 at 1:08 am
My favorite cookie is plain and simple. Just chocolate chip cookies; with big chucks in them. Made all ready to bake. I love it they are still fresh from the oven, soft and goowy. If i find another favorite flavor before the contest is over I’ll let you know.
September 28th, 2008 at 1:27 am

I’m not the best at baking, so I usually get Uncle Eddie’s Vegan Cookies (the Peanut Butter are FAB!) from my local vegan friendly store. I’d love to win and try my hand at these yummy sounding cookies. Plus, I’m sure my kids would love them! Thanks!
September 28th, 2008 at 7:53 am
I have never tried a vegan recipe and this would be a wonderful opportunity. I do make pumpkin cookies and I substitue oils for applesauce. I add nuts and raisins.
September 28th, 2008 at 10:16 am
My favourite (imaginary) cookies would have to be for sweet:
made from wholemeal flour, be infused with rich hazelnuts and decorated with scrumptious oats & brought dancing to life in my mouth with strawberry jam (or jello i think it’s called in the US but i’m not sure)
For Savory:
Again using wholemeal flour entwined with aromatic spices such as cayenne pepper & oregano then for a tantalizing twist topped off with cashew nuts.
and for either savory or sweet, they must be warm straight from the oven:)
September 28th, 2008 at 1:28 pm
i want to win
September 28th, 2008 at 1:57 pm
I love peanut butter cookies. You can make them with just peanut butter, flour, and a sweetener so they’re simple but delish.

My favorite cookie is Oatmeal Chocolate Chip. The great thing about these cookies is that you can put any add in you want. I’ve even made them vegan (I’m vegetarian) and used apricots and pecans.

I love to bake. I think my favorite cookie to make for my family are oatmeal jam dots. I easily veganized our family recipe and make this cookie all the time. People always act so surprised when they try them, love them and then learn that the cookie is vegan
September 29th, 2008 at 10:52 am
My favorite cookies are any that my vegan sister makes for me. A standout among these is the peanut butter drop cookie- rolled in sugar with a little vegan chocolate on top. Yum! and yay! for vegan relatives.

Alternative Baking Company’s Espresso Chip Cookies are ace!
September 29th, 2008 at 11:36 am
I have trouble making cookies that don’t look and taste like cardboard - for me it’s store-bought oatmeal. Around here I have to go to a health food store to get them.
September 29th, 2008 at 12:01 pm
Peanut Butter cookies are hands-down my favorite cookie… especially when they are soft, warm, and bit chewy. YUM!
Like many others have said… you can use applesauce to replace the eggs in the mix… I’ve also found that you can use soaked dates that you’ve processed up either in the blender or the food processor. The soaked dates give my cookies the moisture, sweetness, and chewiness that I crave. Also the added benefit is that I usually can cut down on the sugar a bit because the dates are so naturally sweet. Try it.
September 29th, 2008 at 12:43 pm
Well my favorite cookies would have to be anything homemade. My sister and I recently made vegan sugar cookies with chocalte frosting. mmm so good!! I love when they first come out of the oven, they are so warm and soft. The best part it no animal was harmed in the process of baking!! I love that aspect the best!! Besides these sugar cookies are much more healthy and enjoyable than the original.
September 29th, 2008 at 1:02 pm

I love chocolate chip and banana cookies, but the other day I was snooping through my baby-sitters fridge and found a vegan oatmeal cookie with an apple and cinnamon paste filling. It was just delicious, it is by-far the best cookie i have ever had
October 1st, 2008 at 8:51 am
I made up a vegan persimmon cookie many years ago when I was nine years old. It is a tasty, not-too-sweet, unique cookie that has been loved by vegans and non-vegans alike ever since I created it almost twenty years ago. I always make my own foods and never rely on packaged ones, but if there is a responsible company out there that makes an interesting mix, I would be more than willing to give it a try!
October 1st, 2008 at 11:23 am
I love oatmeal raisin cookies!
October 2nd, 2008 at 3:14 am
I love the pumpkin chocolate chip cookies they sell every fall down at my QFC. I was down there one day and thought they’d have milk or something in them but nope. totally vegan friendly XD
October 2nd, 2008 at 8:30 am
Coconut macaroons are my favorite because I can eat them without worrying about cholesterol.
October 2nd, 2008 at 11:00 pm
Although they can’t really be called cookies because I’m terrible at baking, my favorite cookies are carob chip peanut butter cookies I make whenever I get a chance. They never come out the same way twice; they’ve been so soft I’ve had to eat them with a spoon, so hard I’ve had to soak them with water to avoid a chipped tooth, and everything in between. But each time I somehow manage to mess them up, they are awesome anyway.
October 3rd, 2008 at 12:44 am
My fav cookies are the common ones, especially those that could be made healthy vegan verison, for instance oatmeal raisin cookies or oatmeal chocolate cookies.
October 3rd, 2008 at 12:50 am
I love making cookies- especially cutouts and pumpkin cookies. The pumpkin cookies don’t need eggs or anything to begin with, as they’re made primarily of pumpkin, and for the cutouts i just substitute flaxseed meal and water for the eggs and Earth Balance buttery spread for the butter. Both are delicious, and i’ve never known anyone who didn’t like them, even amongst my non-vegan friends.
October 3rd, 2008 at 6:50 pm
Sugar-free chocolate rum cookies are the best. Try it and love it.
October 4th, 2008 at 2:29 pm

October 9th, 2008 at 9:58 pm
My favorite cookie has and always will be homemade peanut butter cookies. I veganified the old Betty Crocker recipe(best PB cookies EVER) to perfection. They taste even better than the original. For full enjoyability they must be eaten directly out of the oven and only made with organic fresh, no nothing added peanut butter.
It’s like the epitome of deliciousness.
October 10th, 2008 at 12:42 am
Peanut Butter Bombs from Hannah Kaminsky’s book “My Sweet Vegan”. I read an PETA interview with her after she had published her book at the age of 18 and knew I had to posses it to try the Green Tea Tiramisu and Root Bear Float Cupcakes. Amazing! But I have an even greater weakness for peanut butter…
October 10th, 2008 at 5:42 am
My favourite cookie is ‘Nanas’ choc chip cookies, their free of almost everything, I don’t feel one ounce of guilt when eating them! lol The lady behind the checkout knows extactly what I am going to buy every time!

Until recently my favourite cookies were non-existant - I could not find a cookie that was natural, and did not use egg replacer, or other manufactured vegan foods.
Recently, I made PPK’s Pumpkin Oatmeal cookies, and they reminded me of being a kid during Thanksgiving - what an incredible pumpkin cookie for those of us who miss pumpkin pie, and all the warm things the fall has to offer!
I made two batches, and brought one to work, to share with my non-vegan co-workers, who were skeptical of my vegan lifestyle, and these cookies i raved about. They LOVED them, and four out of five asked me for the recipe. A step in the right direction!!

I don’t eat cookies that often, I don’t really get the chance….my favorite cookies may not be as exciting as some of those above…however my favorite cookies have always been the shortbread cookies my mom always used to make with just home made icing on them made with icing suger and water. She used to make them bite sized with a little dollap of icing on the top, they are always best chilled in the fride.
They will always be my favorite as they remind me of my mother and her love for us kids!
October 13th, 2008 at 7:20 am

Nothing better then a vegan chocolate chip cookie…chewy yet crunchy. Possibly better than the “real” thing!
October 14th, 2008 at 9:37 pm
Dear Peta,
My favorite cookies are the mushy, chewy, and soft macadamian cookies. I also like chocolate chip cookies when they are melty and gooey inside. Cookies are a good way to spend time with your friends and family. You eat, enjoy, talk and just have fun! Cookies are delicious and some are even healthy. No one can imagine that! Cookies are the best snack you can take a great bite out of. Hope I win! Thanks!
From, Stephanie

July 30th, 2009 at 12:21 am
I couldn’t let go of meringue cookies when i turned vegan. Even though i felt guilty and horrible after eating those little chick embryos, my stomach couldn’t resist. Now i am thrilled of eating meringue cookies once again!
Proud vegan family of five. We are vegan because we are the biggest lovers.
October 25th, 2009 at 1:12 pm
My favorite cookie eh? It is a tad bit difficult to label one type of cookie as my favorite, but I’ll give it a go. Let me see… Pumpkin Oatmeal cookies with cranberries and walnuts. That seems about right. Woo! Autumn enthusiasm! Fun stuff guys.
November 11th, 2009 at 10:59 pm
I know it’s past the time, but my favorite cookie is a cowboy cookie. I get it at a cute little delicatessan called Flying Elephants. It has all the parts of a chocolate chip cookie but it has some oatmeal-like substance in it which makes it original and fantastic. My birthday is October 24th! I’ll be fifteen
