Win One of Five Nature's Gate Gift Baskets!

The path of true beauty—from the inside out—leads to Nature’s Gate. With 30 years of experience in crafting great products from natural ingredients, the personal-care pioneer has been on PETA’s list of cruelty-free companies for more than two of those decades. Caring consumers can enjoy the entire line of terrific Nature’s Gate products with a clear conscience because they are all-vegan and are never tested on animals!

Nature’s Gate’s founders began by blending natural herbs with hand-collected rainwater to create the very first Rainwater Shampoo, which soon became a phenomenon all along Venice Beach. From that modest start, the Nature’s Gate line has grown to encompass a wide range of outstanding products to care for your hair, face, teeth, body and, yes, even your soul. After all, what could be more soul-satisfying than caring for yourself while also taking care of animals?

As if that weren’t enough, Nature’s Gate’s practices and products—from the natural and organic botanicals that are the basis of their gentle-yet-effective formulations to the recyclable packaging—also reflect the utmost respect and concern for the planet. And bearing the company’s origins in mind, Nature’s Gate has partnered with WaterAid America to support the use of rainwater to help families and children in Asia and Africa secure access to safe, clean water.

For personal care with compassion, just open Nature’s Gate!

Post a comment below telling us something that you have done for animals recently and you could win one of five gift baskets of Nature’s Gate aloe vera moisturizing personal-care products, including shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and fragrance-free lotion. Comments must be received by March 31, 2010. Winners will be chosen at random and notified by April 6, 2010.

You should also be sure to read the terms and conditions and PETA’s privacy policy before you comment. By leaving a comment, you’re acknowledging that you have read and agreed to both.

Good luck!

I volunteer on a regular basis with Animal Acres, a farm sanctuary outside of Los Angeles. Nothing like cleaning poop and helping build shelter for rescued farm animals!

  2. Anne Says:

I took a car-load of supplies over to my local safe animal shelter this weekend. :)

  3. sara Says:

Most recently I took my dog for a nice, long walk.

  4. Kittie Peters Says:

I’ve been a vegetarian for the past 6 (going on 7) years, and I’m proud of it! I save 2 animal lives a day by it, which adds up to a number thats just amazing…

I also helped save wildlife injured in natural disasters by donating to an art quilt– 100% of profits went to animals!

  5. Amanda Berisford Says:

I recently rescued a stray kitten and had her immediately spayed so that there would not be any unwanted kittens.

  6. Sharon Shellhamer Says:

I have recently taken on the responsiblity of making sure people that I know and my neigborhood stop using fertilizers that are not natural on the yards they have. Animals don’t need the stuff on there feet and we all don’t need it in our water supply. The chemicals kill the earth worms and make our ground water horrible. I also have made sure to help as many animals as possible by getting in touch with an animal shelter and seeing what they need in order to make the animals lifes better.

  7. Kerry Macuska Says:

I pledged to start this month to make a monthly donation towards a ferret shelter in Kentucky. The shelter just took in 3 adandoned ferrets that were left in a home with no food, water, or human contact for a week. The medical expenses for the ferrets were very high. Therefore I decided to allocate in my monthly budget to cover the cost of vet care for one of the ferrets at the shelter once a month. I am going to continue to do this as long as I continue to have a job!

  8. Lynn Mullins- James Says:

Iput the PETA bug in the ears of a dog owner in our community after their dog was murdered by an off duty police officer. I just pray that it helped. I also made it aware in my community that killing a companion animal is a class 6 felony in our staate. Hope it helps also in making people aware of the fact that you just don’t take the law into your own hands.

  9. Marissa Weber Says:

I attended a local protest against a bow hunt on our local deer population. The press came and we got coverage, and then I submitted an editorial that they published on the hunt. It was great!
    Read the editorial here
    http://www.app.com/article/20100223/OPINION04/2240309/1028/OPINION/Deer-hunts-are-useless

There was a rebuttal a few days later, to which I also responded. Hoping they publish that too! xo

  10. Ellen Zarchy Says:

I have kept mt FB status always up to date with PETA announcements. I have always stressed to my familyand friends education and research about what they are eating and wearing. I constantly post on FB petitions. I know I am only one person but I always tell my family and friends we have a voice the innocent animals do not. SPEAK OUT!

  14. Suzanne Says:

  15. Lauren Says:

I volunteer at my local animal shelter.

  16. Colleen Says:

I’m heading more and more to becoming a vegan. Leather’s been out for awhile as has other animal derived clothing. About only thing left is some cheese products. I also spread the word to all that there are very exceptional cruelty products and food and encourage them to try a more peaceful world! Thanks for all you do!

  17. Cameron Says:

I foster for a rescue and am starting my own non profit soon to both raise funds for rescues and educate on things like the importance of spaying/neutering.

I am a vegetarian and buy only cruelty fee products whenever I can

  18. heather trageser Says:

i have adopted a dog from a shelter

  19. Katarina Knezovic Says:

  20. Helena Says:

I watched Food, Inc., and went vegan! I became a lacto-ovo vegetarian in 1991, at age eleven. Almost twenty years, and I’m still going strong!

  21. Holly Hughes Says:

Every single dog we’ve ever owned has been from the pound or a rescue dog that we’ve adopted, and we’ve helped an additional 15 pugs and other mutts to find new homes as their previous owners had abused them or kicked them out on the street.

Recently I found a kookaburra caught in barbed wire that I had to cut out, and took him to the vet. We had to cut his wing off which was awful, and I was unsure of his future, until a vet nurse took him in and he’s now a loving and affectionate pet, whom cannot fly but seems very happy with his new home and mum :)

  22. Melissa Says:

Something I have done for animals recently. Well, I haven’t eaten them in 1 month and I plan to never eat them again. Plus I have signed multiple petitions on their behalf. I just spent a fortune on my rescued pug due to his health problems, does that count? LOL.
I am anxiously awaiting my palm oil kit to distribute information. I post things on twitter and fb, just trying to urge others to help. I hope to do more.

  23. kerin gould Says:

First thing every morning, I feed the birds who own my patio - bossy hummingbirds, bouncy juncos and fluffy warblers, and most of all Scrub Jays (some who have rehabbed at my house as youngsters) and the crows. By feeding the crows and jays in different places, we keep the peace. And neither bunch poops on my car. Also there is always water for them - really important when it hits 110 degrees here.

  24. Maggie Creighton Says:

I do care for animals but i would rather nominate a couple from Letterkenny Mary/Joey..whose home is always open 2 any animal in need..they have numerouse dogs and cats that they have re-homed over the years and foster ones that stay with them until they move on 2 other families..they also foster out dogs and cats 2 other homes and then they either get re-homed here in Ireland or sometimes they go to Dogs Trust in Britain..they are true legends in every word!

  25. Ronda Roeschlaub Says:

I have been a vegetarian for years, and have recently gone completely vegan. I’ve shared what i’ve learned with all my friends and loved ones, and now our whole household on the same track. My roomates are enthusiastic about learning new techniques and sharing with our friends that come over, so far 3 friends have joined us, we swap recipes, AND ALSO, attach receipts to the back of them to show how inexpensive it REALLY can be.Alot of people are worried about cost, we are an all organic, efficient, and very ECONO household. We make do with what we have, and utilize our resources. We run on considerablY less energy than most households, and are VERY happy on our HiLL. :)

  26. AJ Says:

My boyfriend and I set out for a walk on the beach, and turned it into a massive plastic clean-up! All the sea life in my neighborhood should be safe now :)

…this and being vegan, of course!

Please join my group on Facebook called Planet or Plastic?

Thank you for all you do!

  27. Adam Says:

I became vegan 3 years ago, purchase hygiene products that have not been animal tested or that include animal products. I have educated my family about being vegan and stopping animal cruelty and through influence, 4 members of my family are veg/vegan. We even went to the local animal shelter and adopted a rescue white boxer in British Columbia. I signed a number of petitions this week, on to release the killer whales at Sea World, and I boycott their park, and all other zoos. I started a facebook group called “Vegan vegetarian day” and informed friends about trying to do an animal cruel-free day, and not eat any animal products, and 49 of my friends joined.

  28. Melinda Says:

i’ve done alot over the past few months for animals. At Christmas, I organized a Santa Paws Drive for my local no kill shelter, we brought food, supplies, and toys to them. Me and my sister have also just started a Humane Teen club called Animal Alliance. At Valentines day, i made cards for a charity called Dogs Deserve Better, and i have also been doing projects through the HSUS, and of course spreading some peta joy around!

  29. Toni Royer Says:

I TRY AND USE ALL PRODUCTS THAT ARE ENVIRONMENTALLY SAFE AND THAT HAVE NOT BEEN TESTED ON ANIMALS. I LOOK AND READ LABELS CAREFULLY TO MAKE SURE THERE IS NOTHING THAT WOULD DETER ME FROM USING THAT PRODUCT. I ALSO DONATE WHERE EVER AND WHEN EVER I CAN TO ORGANIZATIONS THAT PROMOTE THE WELL-BEING AND PROTECTION OF ANIMALS. NEVER, EVER WEAR FUR!!DO NOT EAT RED MEAT AND VOICE MY OPINION ON THESE TWO SUBJECTS WHEN THE NEED ARISES. I ALSO GET IN TOUCH WITH PETA WHEN I SEE ANIMALS BEING ABUSED OR NEGLECTED. GOD GAVE US THESE BEAUTIFUL CREATURES AND WE HAVE TO USE OUR POWER TO SAVE AND PROTECT THEM AND THEIR ENVIRONMENT.

  30. Sandi Says:

Hello! The most recent thing I have done for animals is become a vegetarian. It was my New Year’s resolution and I am loving it so far. Should have done it a long time ago.

    Thanks,
    Sandi

  31. Shannon Dillman Says:

I recently gave up eating meat during the week. Its a first step for me but going well… I forget to eat meat on weekends because its been so easy.

Jamie Oliver the chef, challenged us to at least do it on weekdays. I came to you for recipes and advice. TVP is great! My husband is on board too!

  32. Sarah Says:

My family and I live in a wooded area so we have tons of wild animals in our yard. We don’t use any chemicals or anything on our lawn. We have rabbits who come every year to nest, as well as birds and even a wild cat. The cat has even had kittens and they to come back. Friends love to come over and enjoy what nature has to offer. We also have an organic garden. We have made everything in our yard safe for animals to come and live the way they were meant to be. Its great watching them in the summer.

  33. Dena Kabbaz Says:

hello, well i took in a kitten that my boston terrier find outside just before winter. now bubbles loves on this kitten like its her. plus a few years ago i also took in a U2 (cockatoo). no one wanted him becauses he’s a picker. i just love animals. my pets r congo grey and 13 cockatiels plus a other cat. thanks for helping the animals of the world, Dena

  34. Kirsty Moloney Says:

We have 7 adopted cats and our most recent of which is deaf and can’t jump due to being in a car accident. Luckily
he came to live with us who don’t only give him all the love and attention he wants but also this means he can safely
go outside as our garden has been turned into a large cat-friendly playpen for cats who can’t be let outside due to injuries etc and who would risk being run over. Plus all of our cats are rescue cats, money can’t buy love!

  35. MELISSA Says:

I became a vegetarian about 2 years ago out of respect for animals. Growing up an avid meat eater it was a challenge, but once I saw what it took to get that meat to my table I no longer wanted to be a part of it. And recently I started cutting out dairy and eggs from my diet. Personally I love vegan food so it hasn’t been a sacrifice, haa. I’m also becoming more aware of the products I use. I make an effort to buy cruelty-free as often as I can, and slowly making the transition to everything else. I live w/ 2 beautiful cats and every day I’m glad they’re in my life. They’re 2 of the most spoiled little beings you’ll ever meet and they love it. So I guess every day I make a conscious choice to not harm another living being with my actions. So far so good! :)

  36. Stephanie Says:

I recently convinced a meat eating (meat gorging…seriously I think he only ate meat!) friend to start eating vegetarian twice a week! I know it does not sound like much but he is trying new recipes and experimenting with eating vegan with me when we eat out!

  37. Marquie Says:

Recently (every day, actually) I have provided food and blankets for the stray cats in my neighborhood.

  38. Jamie Hood Says:

My husband and I were driving down a pretty heavily populated road recently when we saw an object laying in our path. Other cars were swerving around it or going over it, but we slowed down as we approached it and realized that a turtle had wandered into traffic. We put our emergency blinkers on and held up the cars behind us as we carried the turtle back into the woods. Other drivers were swerving around us and honking, but we didn’t care. Taking a few minutes out to help save the life of an animal overshadowed the criticism of our fellow drivers. :)

  39. Aaron Barber Says:

Due to the recent unfortunate accident at Sea World Florida, I took the opprutinity to talk to some coworkers about alternatives to such parks. Go to a state park and see a wild animal instead!

  40. Katie Malzbender Says:

I’ve been a vegetarian for several months now, and have recently decided to go vegan!!

  41. melanie Says:

made the decision to not support/visit any zoo, park or museum that uses animals for profit.

  42. Erica French Says:

Recently I told all my friends and family to watch the cove and I feel the movie really had a affect people who I never thought would care seemed moved and when they heard of tilly killed his trainer they were mad that at the situation but believed animals should no longer be captured and put in jails…I was like wow! I never expected that from them

  43. Heather Vanisko Says:

Donated advertising space for PETA in our New Jersey markets.

  44. Mindy Underberger Says:

Other than being a vegan, I just gave my three dogs a bath with Nature’s Gate Shampoo. Now they are all soft and sweet smelling. Thanks for these great products.

  45. Shayna Says:

    I recently became a vegetarian!!

  46. Gayle Says:

Well, I was just thinking what I was going to write and while that thought was going through my head, my kitty cat puked. So, sorry, but cleaned up cat vomit! ;)

  47. Reem Kattan Says:

I have signed countless petitions, shared info with friends on facebook and have gotten some of them to join causes like the fight against seals. I am especially passionate about stopping the seal hunt. I downloaded flyers to pass out to people. I refuse to eat at McDonald’s or Kfc as well.

  48. Rachel Romero Says:

This wasn’t very recent but hope it is satisfactory.
My mother borrowed my car one night to make a hospital visit. I got a call later on that she had seen a wild kitten in the parking lot that was proving difficult to coax to her. I woke my young daughter up, got my cat carrier and called a cab. I had a single can of sardines in the cabinet that I brought with us and after a couple of hours, finally convinced the hungry and very bratty kitten close enough to pounce. I’m glad to say, Jinks has been with me ever since that very hectic night and is still very bratty!

  49. Andrea Hale Says:

I have always believed in the rights of animals. Protecting and rescuing animals has always been a task that I have accepted willingly. While I have done many things lately for animals and their well-being, I consider what I do a lifetime task, unlimited by time’s boundaries. As long as I can talk, I’ll be a champion for animals.

Recently, my life partner and I were at the campus of a local college, running some errands. Something told me to walk over to a large rolling recycle bin; I’m glad I did. There was a little girl raccoon in the bin, sad, scared and ready to accept whatever fate was coming. We tipped over the bin and she happily ran out, scampering into the woods.

If I see an animal who has been the victim of irresponsible and cruel drivers, I remove it and bury it nearby. It deserves the dignity not afforded to it by those who don’t care. I feel as if I have been appointed the one who allows them the last act of respect and loving kindness. If they are not yet gone, I take them to the nearest vet to end their suffering.

I speak out to my acquaintances, relatives, friends and strangers on the importance of animal rights, and of the necessity to educate ourselves regarding which businesses and products support those rights. I speak out regularly against laboratory testing (which I abhor), dissection, vivisection, unethical farming practices and the fur trade. I will continue to speak out–loudly–against those things until the day I die.

When I encourage others to purchase cruelty-free products, I do so in a way that both educates and encourages. The majority of those I speak to admit that it was the first time that anyone has ever explained the issues to them in such a manner, and they are delighted to make the changes in their lives that are necessary.

I regularly encourage my contacts to adopt shelter animals rather than animals from breeders. While all animals are wonderful, those adopted from shelters are in need of a good, loving home TODAY. Each one of our cats has been adopted, either from a feral situation or shelter.

When Michael Vick was jailed, fined and criticized for having advocated dog fighting, I was one of those who was steafast in the position that his punishment was mild. Anyone who advocates dog fighting is beyond compassion already, and will do it again.

My partner and I regularly go on patrol in the various neighborhoods in our city, looking for abandoned and abused animals. We drive the streets and alleys of Richmond, looking in the yards that contain animals. When we see an animal being neglected in any way, we report the address and remain in contact with rescuers until the animals have been freed.

I am a friend to animals of all kinds, and am honored to accept my duty as such, and to educate others on how to be a friend to animals, too. I am not just an Advocate; I’m an Activist.

  50. Glen Venezio Says:

Fighting against a proposed monkey breeding farm (Bioculture)
    in Puerto Rico

  51. lindsay handley Says:

I rescued a stray cat, she is now a much loved member of our family, although she’s rather aggresive to our other cat, hopefully given time she will feel more secure and settle down.

  52. Susan Says:

Last year I switched to veg/vegan. I take my time shopping to make sure nothing I buy is tested on animals. How can people be so cruel. My fur coat is on it’s way to PETA, and I am not buying any more leather. I also collect the newpapers from my office and donate them to an animal shelter for the indiviual pet areas. Helping and recycling at the same time! And when my “girl” is not interested in any of her doggie items anymore, they go with the newpapers.

  53. Michael Hughes Says:

Recently I made a donation to the Center for Biological Diversity’s Endangered Species Fund, and I volunteered to distribute endangered species-themed condoms to raise awareness of the dire consequences of overpopulation, the engine driving most, if not all, extinctions today.

  54. Leigh Says:

I have just recently adopted a cat from the animal shelter. He is a new addition to the family which includes two rescue dogs and gets along very well with them already =)

  55. Carla Bramlett Says:

I have a house full of rescues. They are my babies now, my pets, my children whatever you want to call them…but I miss having a “baby” so I am awaiting the next adoption day with my local shelter. They have a little boy named Kit-Kat that I plan on adopting. He’s being neutered tomorrow and he should be able to join his new family on March 20th. What have I done with animals lately? LOL What haven’t I done? I have 4 dogs, two soon to be three cats. I do things with animals almost on a constant basis. :-)

  56. cassandra perkins Says:

i donated to the Nevada SPCA…I also attended the Kandy Masquerade which was a fundraiser for the NVSPCA. I am working on developing a proposal for a program that will hopefully be granted govt funding and meet the needs of the NVSPCA for now and possibly be implemented nationally for other ‘no kill’ animal shelters.

  57. Erin Says:

I recently got back in touch with an old friend on facebook and she told me she has decided to go vegan! So I gave her some tips and encouragement, hopefully I can help her stick to her decision.

  58. Lind Archipov Says:

My 3 kids (age 7,5,3) and I work hard to clean up litter around our neighborhood lake to help keep the fish, egrets, herons and pelicans healthy and safe.

We are also vegetarian and my kids encourage their friends to do the same in order to help animals.

  59. Catherine Says:

I’m a Fan of Free Tilly on Facebook, and I wrote on the wall about how all animals are God’s creatures and I believe they should be treated with respect and dignity. :)

  60. Jennifer P Says:

I work as an adoptions counselor every Saturday at my local shelter and I eat vegan every day.

  61. Lisa Guzdziol Says:

I called the Stop and Shop and told them that what they are doing is up surd and the customer care rep said, “people have different dietary need” hello… animals are not food and brought up the plant life argument… i guess the world is still flat to some, idk

A few years back my husband rescued a cat that was put in a microwave, her name was Oce and I miss her :)

  62. Kavita Says:

I am not that strong to ask all people to be vegetarian but no one can stop me to respect all creatures on this earth. I am sure my small contributions also have impact.
“I am vegetarian from birth, never eat any animal till date and will not for-ever”.

  63. amanda Says:

Last week my friend informed me that her cat was peeing on everything, the couch, the bed, all over the house. She said she couldn’t keep the cat anymore because it was costing her too much money replacing items it was peeing on. She said she was either going to lock it out of the house completely or give it to the animal shelter. I felt bad for the the kitty, neither of these options sounded good. I couldn’t take the kitty because I live in a tiny apt with a baby and a husband who is allergic (sucks because I looooove cats!) I did everything I could to find a home for kitty, even with the pee problem and just today, I got an email. I found a new home for kitty, my friend from highschool who now works at a vets office. She said she would love to take the beautiful cat and she will have him checked out to see why he is peeing and make sure he is not depressed. How awesome is that?! All I know is this is going to work out great for this cat. Thankfully there are people who care and work together to help all living being in need.

  64. Jessie Says:

Posting fliers around my school, and working on starting up a veg fund in my town

  65. amanda Says:

wow, reading these stories is so inspirational!!

I adopted a retired racing greyhound. I am giving him a home with much love, care and attention instead of him spending his days in a crate with only one hour of human interaction.

  67. Howard Says:

I recently adopted a Shih Tzu puppy that no one else wanted because he was the smallest of the litter and his eyes are crosseyed. I figured he was friendly as can be and the eyes gave him “character”. He is now a valued member of our home!

  68. Dayna Says:

I volunteer once a week at the animal shelter in my city.

  69. Averi Says:

I’m 13 years old and vegan. I volunteer at my local SPCA animal shelter weekly, and convinced one of my friends to be vegetarian. Also, my birthday is coming up and I asked all my friends to donate money to the Humane Society instead of getting me a gift. I love animals with all my heart, and one day I’m going to be a veterinarian.

  70. radioactivegan Says:

the thing i do most often for animals is play with my cat, Lilly. sure, it’s just for one specific animal, but we both love it.

  71. Brian Says:

I recently decided to go vegetarian. In the past, I’ve tried going vegan only to give up within a few weeks. I figure abstaining from meat is better than nothing, and eventually I might know enough vegetarian foods and recipes to make a lasting switch to veganism.

  72. Jessica Rogers Says:

My birthday was quickly approaching and I couldn’t decide what I wanted…the reason I couldn’t decide is because I didn’t NEED anything! So instead of a present that wasn’t necessary I asked my fiance to make a monthly donation for one year to the organization that we rescued our sweet dog from. I’ve never felt better about a birthday gift!

  73. Jaime Langner Says:

i am a foster mom for cats with a no kill shelter, i also have 4 cats that are the family pets and all have been adopted from shelters.

  74. Hazel Says:

When we had a recent heavy snowfall, I saw a mouse in my back garden looking for shelter. It didn’t look like there was anywhere dry for it to go so I got some old clothes and made a nest! I don’t know if it was a crazy thing to do or not, and have no idea if it used it, but I couldn’t bear the thought of finding it frozen and not having tried to help! Either way I saw it alive and well last week :)

  75. Elora Tan Says:

I got my friend into cruelty free products.

  76. Heather Widzbell Says:

I am 21 and have been a vegetarian for 11 years now. I am finishing up my Bachelor’s degree and will be applying to veterinary college later this year which has been my life long dream. I am also a self-proclaimed animal rescuer and have rescued, rehabilitated, and rehomed numerous animals over the past few years. And, most recently, I fell in love with my Wildlife Rehabilitation class at college, and will be working one on one with my wildlife rehabilitator next month and will be rehabing various wild critters in my home, starting off with baby squirrels and oppossums! :)

  77. merrideth Says:

Taught my 6 year old son to love all animals unconditionally! The future is in their hands! :)

  78. Molly Says:

I took in an abused lab mix with really bad behavior problems and have been working day after day to get her to learn that people are not all bad. She was found covered in motor oil and with head trama so trusting people is last on her list. My mom and I also Volunteer at our local no kill shelter every weekend. I have also started college with the major of marine mammal science. I hope to someday work with any animal that needs someone on there side. I have also been a vegetarian for a little over 5 years, and have worked to save horses from slauter and get them new homes for 2 years.

  79. Christina Pham Says:

I set humane traps for feral cats in my area and then take them to a no-kill shelter for rehabilitation, medicine and lots of love.

  80. Neena Says:

Besides having been vegan for almost 12 years. I make sure I drive carefully in the mornings on my way to work and watch out for the squirrls. Damn things, some times seem like they want to die. I also bring out nuts for the little guys whenever they are around. :)

  81. Yolanda Evans Says:

I feed every cat I come across [: Also I placed “No fur” stickers on the desks at school :D lol

  82. Kelly Says:

I decided last fall that being the animal lover that I am, I could not continue to support the inhumane meat industries in this country. I started out going from meatless mondays to meat occasionally and rarely. We have cut out pork entirely due to it’s horrific treatment to the animals and the effect the industry has on our planet and other living creatures around these toxic farms. If we do eat meat, we only buy meat raised humanely (free range, cage free, fed vegetarian diets, no hormones, etc.) and buy it from local farmers.
I now also stick to buying planet friendly cleaning products to protect the environment and its creatures. I keep a list of the cruelty free brands in my purse, and have decreased the amount of products (home, health and beauty) tested on animals I would say confidently by 75% since the fall and I’m working to make it 100%! For the pets in my neighborhood, I have swept up salty snow melt that is hard on the paws of my furry friends and use only a pet and environmentally friendly choice. I also make regular donations to the Humane Society. I know there is so much more that I can do to protect animals and the enivonment they live in, so I keep adding new ways to help in my life.

  83. Emily Derks Says:

I have been a vegan for 4 years, so at the very least, I don’t eat them. I have turned many of my friends into vegetatarians (with the help of your website) and I am working to spread the word about factory farming. Most selflessly, I made the tough decision not to take my children to Sea World. I LOVED it as a little girl and I wanted to share that joy with my children, but I can not bring myself to support them and the captivity of those magestic marine animals. We are actually going to a protest instead!!!!

I saw on the news the animal shelter was going to have to start putting down a bunch of cats because they had too many to care for. I ran down there to adopt a couple and ended up wanting a mom and her two daughters. I lady working there was dicouraging me from adopting them because she said they were really skittish. I told her FOR SURE I want them. If she told that to everbody then for sure they would be destroyed. She seemed very upset with me. I couldn’t believe she worked there! I now have 3 adorable cats who have overcome there skittishness and I just love them!

  92. kim cameron Says:

I like to visit the city animal shelter with a ten pound box of dog biscuits and some rawhides, and walk around and hand them out. There always seems to be just enough to go around, and while some of the dogs, heartbreakingly, don’t know what to do with the biscuits, some of them take them anyway. Others just wag their tails at having a person walk by and stop to say hi. Always, I take my leave a little more amazed that we are allowed to share this planet with such noble creatures. Dogs RULE!

  119. Eloy J. Hernandez Says:

We have had some major snowstorms here in the Northeast this past month…every outdoor surface was seriously covered with heavy, icy snow. It’s not much, but I made sure to have lots of organic birdseed out there in my birdfeeder every day so all of these wild birds and squirrels and my neighborhood, who must have been having a terrible time surviving these storms, could at least have one easier food option to get through these few very difficult weeks.

  120. jw Says:

recently i left food for a stray animal.

  121. Dana Rose Says:

  126. Laura Says:

I’ve been involved in cat rescue, TNR, and feral colony maintenance on a grass roots level for years. During that time frame, I have rescued and re-homed many wonderful cats.

I have also TNR’d - live trapped, spay/neutered, and returned many to their outdoor homes, where I continue to care for them 365 days a year… providing food, water, outdoor shelter, and lots of love.

On occasion I have had the opportunity to rescue friendlies from the colonies I care for and find them wonderful loving homes as well.

As a result of my efforts, no kittens have been born into colonies I care for since I first began this effort in 2006.

It’s a lot of hard work… but a work of the heart that I wouldn’t trade for anything in the world.. except the opportunity to help even more :) >^..^<

  127. Joel Chasen Says:

I keep 3 different types of bird feeders filled with seed and a fountain with re-cycled water filled in my courtyard. Needless to say it is a very popular place for all types of birds to hang out, sing, chat and have a generally good time…however, I recently discovered that it has also been a popular spot for neighborhood cats to sit and watch the birds, sometimes sitting on the other side of my front gate or sometimes on the wall surrounding the courtyard. I love all animals and would not want to hurt any one of them but I have been spraying the wall and around the gate with home made “cat repellent” (all natural & not toxic)and this seems to do the trick. Now the birds can eat, drink and bathe in peace.

  128. Rebecca Booth Says:

I have taken in a wild cat, took it to the vet, got it shots and neutered and am now trying to get it to feel more and more safe in my home. He can still go out but will not get any cats pregnant or catch or give any diseases. He’s so sweet. I named him Lama kitty because he looks like he has a lama face!!

  131. Jennifer Smith Says:

A female cat has been hanging around my house and you can totally tell she’s pregnant. I’d keep her but the whole family is allgeric. Two weeks ago she gave birth and abandoned the litter, seven newborn kittens were left to die. By the time I found them, one had already passed and the others were barely hanging on! I took them to the vet and they told me what I should do. I called every shelter and humane society in my area and there were no lactating mothers. So you can say I was forced to be a serogate mother. I’ve been bottle feeding each one waking up every two hours (thank god I’m a stay at home mom!) feeding them. When they’re old enough, I’ll make sure they get a good home!

  132. Roblyn Honeysucker Says:

  136. Janet Dingwell Says:

We have a school at the location where I work. Each copy PETA magazine I receive I bring to work to share with the youth. I also have taught the youth to let me know if there are any creatures in the building, typically mice or bugs, and I will catch them and put them outside. I feed the pigeons, seagulls, crows and starlings in the mornings at work and this always allows me an opportunity to share with the youth the intelligence and beauty of these animals.

  137. Heather Says:

I ate a vegan pizza. No cruetly involved. Yum. And then I told others so everyone can enjoy.

  139. Alva Kennedy Says:

My friend’s dog had 2 puppies a few months back. Recently my friend had to move so she gave one of the puppies to a friend and one puppy to me. I brought the puppy home to my elderly mom and dad house because I live in apt and already have a cat. My parents fell in love with the puppy and named her Lulu. Lulu brings a lot joy to their lives and is a great companion to them. I have a cat named Lucy whom I rescued a few years ago. She is a great cat and curls up next to me when we go to sleep.

  140. Laura Peters Says:

I recently adopted a cat from a young woman who lost her husband in the Afghan war. She could no longer take care of her, so I took her on and now we’re friends to boot. All of our cats were adopted from shelters and we regularly contribute to local animal charities and lend our support in a variety of ways to animal causes. Thanks.

Having recently moved to the country to enjoy the “simple life” and it isn’t so easy!
many farms mistreat their animals and I realize it is my duty to report this issues. So I am always checking out the conditions looking for potential animal cruelty. I have always been passionate animal rights and recently saw the HBO documentary on local farmers “the wiles” and was mortified to find that the wiles farm is ten miles from my house!!! I cannot stand to think these pigs are suffering so close to my home sweet home!!

Anyone who hasn’t seen this movie – should do so. My mom says she will go to their house with me and protest. Anyone else in?

  143. Lynn Krueger Says:

I am a foster mom for Green Acres Boxer Rescue of WI. I also work with local Law Enforcement getting out flyers about stray animals found in our area. If the owners are not found by the 7th day, I will transport the animal to a local shelter, saving the animals from disposal.

  144. Peng Peng Klayman Says:

Vegetarian since 1987! I TNR feral cats in my neighborhood, rescue/foster stray cats, and educate others through my blog about spay/neuter and caring for feral cats.

Rescue Farm pulls animals from shelters that would otherwise be euthanized for space. Some of these dogs and cats are older or have medical issues (such as heartworm positive). Rescue Farm finds loving homes for over 700 animals every year!

  150. priscilla Says:

I have given info about the shuttle bus that provides discount spay/neut. services. i also adopt and encourage others to adopt from shelters.

  151. Cynthia Says:

I send many letters and emails every week to my elected officials, asking them to pass strong animal welfare legislation.

  152. Melanie Says:

I always look out for animals wherever I go. When people had their black dogs out in the hot sun on black top pavement at a festival this past summer, I bought bottles of water, went over and kindly asked the owners if I could give their dogs water. They said yes, and as I pet their dogs, I mentioned how hot it was for them, and the owners finally moved their dogs into the shade. I’ve volunteered several times at a local shelter, and I’ve made calls to authorities to help dogs who are neglected and left outside in the cold for hours. I’ve adopted a turkey at Farm Sanctuary for Thanksgiving and I do all that I can to help animals of all shapes and sizes!

  153. Jill Says:

I bring in vegan baked goods to my office every few weeks to show that delicious treats do not need eggs, dairy, honey, or any other animal products (and they are always eaten much faster than the birthday office cake). I’ve shared my recipes multiple times and have convinced two co-workers to use egg replacer instead of eggs, and several others to buy earth balance instead of regular butter.

And I just celebrated my 2 year vegan anniversary in January with a trip to Dama Restaurant in Virginia for some celebratory vegan cake. Yummmy!

  161. Julie Davis Says:

I just joined Greenpeace; a group came to my college and wanted to talk about environmental and animal rights to the student body. I’ve been vegetarian for almost two years, and this is just another way I can help animals.

  162. Analyn Says:

I have been a proud vegetarian since December 2009(I don’t eat any meat[which of course includes "sea kittens"-I love that campaign!], I don’t drink milk, or eat eggs)! I use ELF and organic wear make-up. I also spread around animal friendly ideas, for example: I’ve gotten some free stickers, which I stick on my school assignment book(which comes with me to every class so that I can write down homework), and I also share them with my friends :) Last week, I brought in a flyer to school about the seal slaughter and gave it to my reading teacher who read it to all of his classes. Also(this would be the most recent since it was assigned 2 days ago), in home ec. we have a project to make a menu for our own restaraunt, and I’m making my restaraunt menu completely 100% vegan and vegetarian!

  163. Stacey Says:

I took some blankets that we were not going to use to my local animal shelter.

  164. Greg Says:

Myself and my roommate rescued a Snowshoe Siamese kitten from certain death living on the streets. He had a pulled muscle in his leg also, probably from someone pulling on it. We nursed him back to health and is a welcome addition to our family.

I’ve worked at a veterinary hospital for the last 3 years, we work with speciality and critical care cases, before that I worked at the spca doing adoptions. 169. Dixie Says:

When I found out my roommate’s cat was declawed, I did a little research and was able to give her some concrete information about why declawing is cruel to kitties. When her boyfriend got a kitten, she said no to declawing!

  170. Lori zwisler Says:

    Hello,
I’m a huge animal lover.. I adopted 3 rescue bunnies from Long Island Rescue and 1 guinea pig from a run down pet store in Brooklyn. They were going to get rid of the guniea pig. I drove over 2 hrs to pick her up and I love her so. They are my children. It hurts me so to see people treat animals like they don’t feel or have feelings.
I don’t eat chicken nuggets anymore and I’m trying hard to become a vegan. I would love to work for Peta but I live in NY and would have to move to Va. I donate what I can to Peta especially to stop the slautering of the Seals.
Keep it up Peta! Love you guys!

  171. Matthew Says:

I became a vegan this past summer and I convinced a friend to go vegetarian! Yay!!

  172. Vivian Friedmann-Cerny Says:

I add a Peta Leaflet in every letter or package I send out!

  173. Sarah Says:

I helped organize an event called “Gimme Shelter.” Volunteers went to a low-income neighborhood with a high number of outdoor/chained dogs and outdoor cats. The volunteers went door-to-door to educate the residents on proper pet care in the winter (proper shelter, extra food and non-frozen water) as well as urging them to bring their pets inside. We also offered assistance with extra food and referrals for veterinary assistance. A local news team covered the event, so the information reached a lot of people beyond the neighborhood we targeted!

  174. nicole morris Says:

    Hi there,
I wanted to share the things that I have done for animals recently.
Most recently I sent a letter in to our local paper speaking against the killing of beavers in our creek which was shamless and unnessecary and also about the lack of staff in the local animal shelter ( government run ). Both of these articles upset me greatly and I felt very strongly about them.
I have also not eaten meat in about 5years now and my husband has finally given up some of his meat eating ways , thank heavens!!!
Would love to try your wonderful products!!
    thanks,have a great day

    Patty Bowers

  176. Pamela Says:

I’ve ceased purchasing products that are not cruelty free, and politely inform companies of the business they have lost.

  177. Alyx Says:

I spread the word every day about the injustices of the world known as animal cruelty. It seems as though few people truly understand the plight of our furry and feathered friends, so I make it my duty to tell the world and let them know what they can do to help, too.

  178. Kendall L. Says:

I adopted 3 kittens (6 months old, all brothers), who were likely to end up in separate homes or a shelter if not adopted soon. This is in addition to the 8 cats I already have. It’s a great feeling to know that you are saving 1 life and even better knowing I saved 3! Of course, they are spoiled rotten and have a forever home where they loved and well cared for. Thanks PETA for all YOU do!

  179. Toscha Jones Says:

I have rescued 5 dogs,8 lizards,3 cats, 4 turtles and a bird from abusive/neglectful owners. I gave the dogs and cats shots and adopted them out to awesome families. I also adopted out the lizards, turtles and bird to good families. I checked out there home and had them give me references before any animal went to a home. I also run for animals at charity events and volunteer at shelters. I do all of these acts frequently. I do what I can for animals of all sorts.

  180. Alicia Hecht Says:

I have been signing just about every petition when asked to sign that helps animals on this and other sites (I do not know how many I have signed, but it is a lot).

I also make pro comments for animals. Especially when it involves BSL, or horses.

I have videos to support animal rights on myspace site at http://www.myspace.com/pianovocals

I have taken the pledge ASPCA and to save seals.

I have been a vegetarian since December 1981 (yes that is almost three decades!).

I am the creator and webmaster of a site called pet homes. This site helps pet owners, find homes, apartments, and condos in Orange County, Ca. that are pet friendly. I do not make any money with this site. I know how hard it can be to find a home for dogs (especially big dogs). This site will hopefully keep pets and owners together, especially during this tough economic times.

I also rescued a Golden Retriever mix named Honey from going to the dog pound. The landlord was going to take Honey to the pound, that the last renters (who were evicted)left behind. I told him no, I will hold on to the dog. I was going to give the dog back to the last renters. They did not come back and claim Honey. I ended up keeping here. Which is fine by me, because I am in love with my dog. :) If you want to see Honey’s picture it is featured on Pet Homes site.

  181. Melissa Beavers Says:

I organized and recruited people for the recent Ringling Brothers protest in Tallahassee Florida! Heather from Peta contacted me when she saw that I lived in Tallahassee and said that there was nobody who had volunteered yet! Obviously, I jumped at the chance to help the poor and defenseless animals from the creeps at Ringilng! Me and 6 of my friends protested along with other volunteers in the area and together we passed out pamphlets, held signs, and gave stickers to the kids. A lot of the people were rude, (one guy even assured me “but elephant meat is delicious!”) but we communicated to them that there were much better ways to entertain your children that to take them to a circus where elephants are abused and die every year. It’s sad to see how many people turn a blind eye, but I know if we at least convinved one person to not go to the circus next year, that it was worth it!

  182. lonne Says:

i took in a stray cat that was pregnant, now i have 3 little cuties that i never thought i’d have, simply because i’m allergic.i suffer, but it was worth it and all the stories that go along with it

I volunteer with a small rescue called rescue me yorkie and I foster dogs that are waiting to be adopted. I also delivered food and supplies to my local shelter over the weekend!

  184. Katrelya Angus Says:

I rescued a young mourning dove whom I found on my patio; she was unable to fly and had difficulty hopping about. Because predator animals tend to visit my yard, out of concern for her safety, I took her to the Pasadena (California) Humane Society,
where I was informed that she would receive good loving care
and then, when she was able to do so, be released back into the wild.

  185. Heather Dyer Says:

I recently saved a dog. He was in the median on the highway with another of his litter mates who had been hit by a car. I picked him up, took him to the vet, and found him a home. He was 10 weeks old, had a collar mark, and had been well taken care of, so it looked like he was dumped. I could not take him to a shelter (there are not any no kill shelters near my home). It is never too hard to help an animal in need and you can never think that someone else will help.

  186. Alicia Hecht Says:

I did not mention I also found a pigeon laying on the street, full of ticks. Left on it’s own it would have died. I took it home and removed the ticks. I noticed on my roof it’s mate was waiting for her mate. After two days, this pigeon was strong enough to be released and go back to it’s mate, patiently waiting mate. I like happy endings :)

I have been a vegetarian for nearly 30 years and no longer use leather. I no longer use products which have been tested on animals and sign every petition that comes my way.

    Valentina

  190. Andrea S. Says:

Aside from becoming vegan over a year ago, every animal I have owned has been a rescue. My family adopted two stray pregnant cats when I was in 5th grade and we kept all but two kittens. I only buy cruelty-free products and volunteer for two shelters, one dog, one cat. I brake for animals, post ideas and thoughts on facebook/twitter to inform others about how they can go cruelty-free, and sign petitions/make calls to local legislators concerning animal bills. I make sure my babies are always spayed or neutered. I walk my friend’s rescued greyhound during the week. I make reports to the MSPCA and local police if/when I see any mistreatment (hot cars, tied to a post, physical harm). If I win the lottery, someday I would love have my own sanctuary.

  191. Madison Says:

I helped co-found a vegetarian/vegan club at the college I just transferred to. We welcome meat-eaters as well as vegetarians/vegans so that people can become better informed while they’re enjoying good food!

  192. Joann Siravo Says:

I recently found a small white mouse running around the sidewalk at night on a street where I feed several feral cats! I was amazed that the cats had not found him. I took him home and he now lives with me in a Habitrail. I play with him every night. He’s wonderful! I think he escaped from someone who bought him for snake food because we don’t have wild white mice in our neighborhood. I also have several rescued parrots that live with me. I have been a vegetarian since January 1. It’s difficult in some ways but so easy when you think of the alternative! If everyone could do one nice thing in their lives for an animal, it would be such a better world. Thank you.

  193. Cindi Mayville Says:

I deliver food to elderly persons through our “Animeals on Wheels” program who receive Meals on Wheels for themselves. One of my favorite persons passed away and left her handicapped mixed breed in the hands of neighbors who left him outside to fend for himself. I took him in and raised the $1600 it was going to take to get his right leg amputated, 10 teeth extracted, current on shots and a neuter. He has joined my Boxer Rescue Group as our “wannabe Boxer” as well as became a permenant member of my own family of Boxers and rescue cats!

  194. Richard Coreno Says:

Stray cats are a problem in the neighborhood and I put out hard food so they have something to eat on a daily basis. I also donate to a number of organizations that assist the majestic Thoroughbreds who end up unwanted and abandoned by owners and trainers…after the finish line.

I took my cats Christmas toys and gave them to the cats that were up for adoption at the local animal store. They never used them, nor were interested in them so now the toys are being used and the kitties have something to play with.
My self and the rest of my family (hubby and two kids) recently rescued two dogs from getting hit on the main road outside of our subdivision. They were darting in and out of traffic so we used our car to corral them back into the subdivision where we then found their family.

  201. Karen K. Says:

I spent an hour trying to catch a cockatiel in my neighborhood that was clearly lost or abandoned. He’s now with a cockatiel rescue group who will find him a new home.

  202. Brittany Brandt Says:

I volunteer at my local animal shelter and humane society. I also put up fliers and talk with people about spaying/neutering their pets. I also volunteer with different animal organizations around me. —and I’m a Vegetarian, too. :)

  220. Lucretia Says:

My recent good deed for animals includes stray dogs in our city. We were on our way to pay our electric bill when 2 beautiful pitbulls were spotted weaving in out of traffic and generally looking lost. We thingk they were abandoned at the animal shelter nearby hoping they would stay put but we opened our car door and they jumped right in and sat down. we fed them and took them to ananimal rescue vet so they would not be automaticly put down which is our city’s policy for pitbulls.

I recently also found a stray pup which was very sick, I took him to a vet and treated it.. and gifted it to a friend who loved it :) Small things go a long way. We really love animals and cannot stand cruelty towards it.. I hate all the animal races and slaughtery to eat them and not to mention hunting. All this should be banned. Animals have feelings too. I dont think we would like to be treated that way. If every humanbeing felt this way, it will make a difference. Please treat animals the way you would like to be treated. Thanks.

  224. Jennifer Girouard Says:

My husband and I recently adopted a dog from our community. This dog was malnutritioned and deeply ignored by his owners. He was boxed in on a patio and left there rain or shine. He would escape often, and we would find him curled up next to our door in the middle of the night. One night it was only thirty degrees outside, and we finally said “that’s enough!” We went to his house and banged on the door until we woke the entire family. We told them they needed to take better care of their precious puppy or give him to some one that would. Of course, they yelled at us, but the next day they approached us and asked us if we would like to keep him. We took hin in that day, and he has made our lives so joyful. We love him dearly!

I am a member of my local zoo to make sure they keep the animals out of cages and in large habitats, and I have adopted a manatee. I am also a teacher who teaches all my little ones the value of animals and the environment. My four year old rescue doggie thanks me every day with kisses :)

  232. Jessica Says:

I take every opportunity to educate my son on the many ways we can help animals and prevent their exploitation. He recently came home with a ticket to a circus that uses animals and we had a great discussion about what a horrible, hard life this is for these poor animals. He really understood and took the conversation to heart. No circus for us!

  233. Makenna Says:

I recently became vegetarian. Once I get use to it I plan to become vegan :D

  234. Nicole Evans Says:

I took several large bags of cat and kitten food, as well as toys to my local animal shelter who had expressed an urgent need for cat food.

I always rescue dogs and my own pets have come from adoption shelters. Recently a bird was wounded outside my house and I took it in from the cold and the next day took it to the vet hospital that accepts all animals in need. I always recycle and and reuse products. I try to use personal care products that are good not only for me but for the environment but most products are out of my budget range.

  236. Sa'Misty Says:

For a week I have been seeing different animal rescues in Houston with Second Baptist School’s interim Term Animal Rescue. I helped clean the kennels at the poodle rescue. I brushed, walked, and cleaned greyhounds at a greyhound rescue. I got to feed baby squirrles that will be freed back into the wild once they are big enough at Wildlife Rehab and Education Center. I donate to rescues and animal charities. I educate others on spay/neuter, rescue/foster, puppy mills, dog-fighting rings, factory farming, fur farms, etc. I petition, protest and boycott. I do whatever I can to live a cruelty-free lifestyle.

  239. nhflowahchild Says:

My husband and I are volunteer drivers in transports that bring at-risk dogs up from high-kill “shelters” in the south to forever/foster homes in New England.

I also use that as a first step in talking to people about how imporant it is to spay/neuter/adopt.

  240. Tasha Says:

I am a vegetarian, working on going vegan. I do not buy or use products that are tested on animals. Also, I educate many people about animal cruelty and sign petitions daily.

  241. Brittany Says:

I made valentine’s day cards for people who keep their dogs on chains outside in the cold. The cards said “It would be great if you brought me inside this Valentine’s Day so we could spend time together. Love your doggie” and was accompanied by a pamphlet from and organization called Dogs Deserve Better.

  242. Alicia Says:

As of November 2009 I went from being vegetarian to vegan. I have noticed such a difference in myself, from feeling happier and having more energy to losing weight. It’s been an amazing journey thus far and my success has inspired my Mum to become vegan as well! Now we share recipes and have fun trying new vegan restaurants!

  243. Kayt Hinman Says:

I only use animal cruelty free bath products and make-up. I also saved my new puppy. :) I love my animals, I can’t ever imagine someone hurting them.

  244. John Metcalf Says:

It has taken me a lot of work to really get to know and appreciate Peta, but I do. Five years ago I went veg. and have been sending Peta videos and writings to friends more and more. To the point that 2 have turned to become vegatarians also. :)

  245. Raven Hannah Says:

I have been a vegetarian most of my life, I only use Earth / Environmentally friendly products and try to shop socially conscious companies (not as easy as it sounds), I have an online specialty pet retail site, which only carries Earth / Pet / People friendly products, organic, natural, recycled / recyclable products and other cool things from socially conscious companies and donate the proceeds to animal rescue, nature conservancy and law enforcement, I volunteer for the Humane Society and other worthy organizations, I donate gift baskets and other pet items to fundraisers, I don’t buy anything leather, suede, fur, etc. and use only cruelty-free products, I conserve energy and recycle, reduce and re-use as much as possible and I harass others to do the same :) So many are still in denial and just don’t get it. It’s sad.

  246. Mara Says:

I saw a homeless dog and I came into my apt and made himsome food.whenhe saw me coming to him he look scared and I look himin the eyes and told himI would not harm him. it made me feel so good.it was food for my soul .

  249. Hannah B. Says:

This week I spoke up for some dogs that I saw were being mistreated and positive corrections were made.

  250. Steph Mcallister Says:

I volunteer every evening at a Riding for the Disabled assosciation, feeding, watering, grooming, excersizing and bonding with the horses. At the RDA they take in injured animals and most recently I rescued my beautiful red setter Libby who was running about the woods starved and beat up. I campaign outside KFC, cause they’re Kentucky Frying the word Cruelty. I’m a vegetarian, and I’m about to start my training on training guide dogs :)

  251. Topper Smith Says:

I Founded Soul Harbor, Inc. a nonprofit charity to help save the lives and spare the suffering of animals. Most recently, this past week, I got the website up and running by hiring a website design firm, to help be ONE MORE VOICE for animals, who need help but are unable to ask for it themselves!

  252. Robin Says:

I have three dogs whom I devote my life to almost as much as they devote theirs to mine.

  253. Jennifer Says:

I am always doing something for animals, but most recently, I took in my uncle’s cat while he became homeless, even though I have a house full of my own pets. I also am 8 months pregnant and recently trapped 2 feral cats in my neighborhood and took them to the APL to get spayed and neutered to prevent more unwanted cats roaming the streets. (I still have 2 cats from a stray I took in last year who had kittens!)

  254. Michelle Miner Says:

I feed two stray cats that always come around my apartment every night, I’m planning to give them flea baths and adopt them out when I can catch them. I also noticed a lady shopping for Maybelline products in a cvs pharmacy recently and decided to convince her to purchase a Revlon product instead since Revlon doesn’t test on animals!

  255. Laura Bostillo Says:

I have donated some food to the local shelter recently, I have not been able to donate much time this past year, so I try to contribute what I can. All of my family’s pets are rescued animals, strays, or adoptions.
And I recently called the law on the local hunters who let their “hunting dogs” (atrocious i know) run free and also have been reporting the hunters who use spotlights (illegal where i live). Unfortunately, I have not been able to catch the awful people who are tossing deer carcasses on the side of the road, but I can’t wait til I DO catch em!

  256. Jaime Says:

we just rescued a dog from our local shelter and we had her spayed!

  257. Cheryl Says:

I’ve recently gone vegan and it’s the best thing I’ve ever done, most importantly for the animals. My husband, a carnivore to the bone, has recently turned vegetarian too, after having to listen to me tell him all about all the awful things that are done to the animals. It was worth it and he’s feeling great and losing lots of weight, plus, he’s much more passionate about the whole topic and how his actions have such a huge impact. Together we’re going to make a huge difference. Other than that, I always speak out for all of the animals whenever I can, take care of our little menagerie or critters at home, and feed the deer, squirrels, birds and outdoor critters all the time, ensuring that they’re well taken care of, especially with this harsh winter we’ve had here in the Northeast.

  258. Tina Hartley Says:

I rescued a lost mourning dove nestling and brought it to a wildlife rescue ranch.

  273. Tara Says:

I pledged to be veg in December, and haven’t gone back since. I love it! I got most of my volunteer hours at the local ospca - walking dogs, cleaning cages etc. I have also been slowly but steadily cleaning out my stash of animal experimented products, I’d love this gift pack because it would help me out so much!

  274. Hope Says:

Well you guys all know how PETA providesus with awesome pamphlets, posters, andsickers to make supporting animals easier. I”m a student and I’ve started just handing out a couple pamphlets here and there and covering my belongings with stickes and people notice. All the time my peers ask about the message behind several different PETA campaigns and I’m always glad to oblige. I’ve found that people are actually interested and moved by what information I provide. I never knew it would be so easy to raise awareness and help animals!

  275. Tanya Quant Says:

Im not sure which part I should say, I passed out all of the literature I received about the seals being slaughtered in Canada during the olympics, I cried and so did other family members, I have sent people to this web site to help as much as possible and have totally pushed everyone I know to get thier animals fixed. We have SO many stray cats in my area, I try to feed them and keep them in my garage during the cold winter months in Michigan, but my garage isnt that big. I have found a few of them good homes, but some are to wild to help, which breaks my heart. Thank You PETA for all you do !!

  276. Leah Young Says:

I keep mice as pets. I know that sounds small, but people think of mice as vermin… they’re not. They’re lovely, curious, and intelligent creatures.

  277. Ms. T Says:

I take care of my in-law’s cat who is outdoors..

  278. dorothy l Says:

I donate to the local shelter

  279. Suzanne Says:

I submit this for my sister. She keeps dog and cat food in her car, and driving home stops to feed several feral cats and any homeless person with animals. Everytime she sees a loose animal she stops and chases it down and makes sure it either gets home, to the vet (out of her pocket)or to a shelter with the instruction they are not to kill it, but if no one adopts it, she will take it and finds it a home. She is compassionate and loving to all animals and even though she would never say so…she’s a hero to them (and to me). She’s a vegetarian and keeps trying to convert the rest of us too. Sincerely, Kevin

  280. bonnie Says:

I’m helping my sister and brother-in-law become vegan. They are very hesitant about it, but want to make the change, since reading The China Study.

  281. Brandy Says:

Recently I have written to many companies. Telling them that I will get the word out on the cruel treatment of animals they facilitate! I have been telling people every day many reasons to not buy from certain companies or use their products in anyway. I wish there was a website that tells you if they test on animals, or use animals, or animal products. I wish our government would wake up and protect our animals and our food supplies!

Maybe if enough people knew about where their food comes from they would demand higher standards. As for the people that would still eat the meat that is.

  282. Aubrey Says:

I got my friends and family started in discussions about why SeaWorld is or isn’t cruel, and what can be done about it. If I hadn’t brought the topic up, they might not even have been aware of the recent SeaWorld incidents.

  283. Sharon Genschoreck Says:

I switched my family of four to a vegan lifestyle! I am also advocating for animal rights amongst my friends, family & pretty much anyone who will listen!

  284. Lena Says:

Recently choose to purchase mostly products that are cruelty-free

  285. Melissa Blount Says:

I leaflette with vegan literture downtown on Saturdays. I also protested the circus in Charlotte, NC with some PETA people.

  286. Yvonne Says:

I recently put some flea medication on a stray cat that lives in my neighbourhood. I also gave him some food.

  287. Rose Linck Says:

We recently had a tuxedo cat show up on the doorstep who had obviously been beaten up. I cleaned his wounds but since he did not belong to me, I put him outside in a cage with the door open. The next day I witnessed another beating by a large cat who almost killed him. I took him in to the bathroom and a hematoma on his head exploded all over the bathroom. He also has skin ripped off to the bone. I took him to the emergency hospital. They stitched him up and said with care he would be okay. After paying about $600 for that and the follow up I wasn’t sure how we were going to eat and pay bills (still recovering from that) but we took him home and kept him in the office. We have three old lady cats and could not mix them together, especially not knowing the health of the cat, but also because he was too rambunctious for them. By coincidence, a repair guy who came to my house that day told me his cat just died. I told him I had one for adoption and he said all his cats have been siamese. I asked him to just look at the cat, so I brought “Wesley” down and laid him on his back in “Gary’s” arms. He looked at the cat, looked at me and said, “I’ll call my fiance’” So, love at first sight…. and they are living happily ever after.

  288. Natalie Stewart Says:

  289. Louise Says:

I try my best to educate and inform everyone I know how to be kinder to the enviroment and all animals, big and small. You don’t have to make huge lifechanging diffences in your everyday life, I have though, but everything helps.
Shop organic, cruel free and fair trade.
I really truly feel everyone makes a difference and if we unite, we make the world a better place.

I feed the birds and squirrels around our home and take good care of my kitties. We use cruelty free products for our pets and ourselves. I donate food and supplies to our shelter and encourage others to adopt too.

  298. Heather Says:

As a vegan and animal rights activist, I think I do what I can for all living beings. I buy cruelty free, sign petitions, join demonstrations, donate when I can. But I recently had the opportunity to do a little more for one special dog.
On my way home from work during a recent snowstorm I saw a large dog lumbering in the street. He appeared cold and dazed. I thought maybe he’d been hit. I pulled over and he came right up to me. It was evident he wasn’t in good shape. I managed to lift him in my car and wrapped him in my coat. He was very weak and kept almost passing out. I rubbed him warm and sang to him as we waited. I called 911 and brought him home with me when the town dog warden told me she “didn’t have four-wheel drive” and couldn’t come for the dog. My husband and I fed him and kept him warm until the dog warden could get to the town line, since we lived in the next town over. The dog was returned to his loving owners the next day. We found out his name is Charlie and he is blind and deaf. I took him almost two weeks to recover and his owners thought he might not make it. But I’m happy to report old Charlie is back to himself. It wasn’t even a question whether or not I would stop and help, it’s just what you do. (No one even pulled over to ask if a woman and a huge dog were ok in a blizzard!) I just wonder how many people drove past Charlie that night and didn’t give another thought. But I know I did the right thing and would do it again.

  301. Ivonne Vasquez-Perez Says:

I’ve been vegetarian for five years and just recently became vegan; I always do my best to keep my family and friends informed about any animal rights issues and I provide them with many alternatives to their current diets. These are some of the things that I do on a daily basis and I really feel that I have helped animals by simply letting the public know the facts about eating animals or using animal products.

  302. Annmignon Terranova Says:

I am trying to capture and spay a pride of cats roaming my neighborhood.

  303. Teddi Pappas Says:

I volunteer for a local animal shelter; my passion is to socialize terrified and feral cats that in most other shelters would be ignored. I go to the shelter during 3 - 4 lunch hours per week and all day saturday to help make the unsocialized cats “adoptable”. I also will consult with anyone who adopts an animal or calls the shelter about behaviour problems to educate people how to communicate with their cat or dog so that everyone’s needs are met; I do housecalls for behaviour!!

  304. carmen rodriguez Says:

i constantly educate my friends and family regarding animal cruelty and the benefits of being vegan.

most importantly, i teach my 6-year-old daughter daily through example. it is important to pass on our compassion for the animals, so that they have future voices too.

last summer, at the age of 5, she came with me to coney island to leaflet against ringling bros. at first she was shy, but when she understood the information on the leaflet, she joined in, handing circus-goers leaflets, saying “are you going to the circus? here is some information on how they treat the animals.”

  305. Peggy Cole Says:

I walk dogs every single day and make sure that they behave! I also do some training.

I also volunteered at a cat rescue called Cats In Need for three and a half years, cleaning litter boxes, the “messes” left around, gave them clean water, gave them fresh food, and of course, plenty of love.

  309. Sundos Says:

I am a vegetarian trying to make vegan choices as much as possible. And, we have a most wonderful lab-rot mix that was a stray.

  310. Lauren Says:

Being a vegan saves animals and the planet and I’m proud to have made a decision that contributes to our environment and saving animal’s lives.

  314. Amanda Says:

I feed my cat all natural foods because I’m worried about the additives that are in the mix of food he eats.

I also take care of my neighbor’s deaf dog at times when watching their children. Working with Chloe who is deaf is a challenging even because she’s old and she doesn’t comprehend human contact until you show her where to go.

In the mean time with ensuring that animals are well taken care of I’m all about ‘Reduce/Reuse/Recycle’ In my spare time I reuse plastic water bottles and fill it with filtered water and recycle my cans to put the money towards AIDS/HIV research.

  315. Daniel Symes Says:

I respect the rights of all nature’s creatures including insects. I have been feeding birds in my area, so that I can study them closer, though they have had a break for 2 days, so that they can continue to search for food with their natural methods. :)

  316. Della Attisani Says:

Yesterday I saw a woman drive into a hospital parking lot with a dog in the car and I knew she intended to leave him. I followed her and confronted her and made her take the dog out.

It was hot (80 degrees where I am) and it was a black car parked in the sun. She couldn’t see my point, so I had to be very persistent. It’s pathetic, but I find I have to do that with some frequency.

I wish everyone would speak up when they see something like that. It’s horrible.

  317. Casey Elizabeth Says:

I make my boyfriend vegetarian and vegan meals. He’s not veg but always loves them and has become less interested in eating meat. We cook together a lot too. Even his friends love our cooking now in our very not-veggie-friendly town!

At work we have stray cats that I buy cat food for and got a few people together to help me feed them. Today, I toook in a stray kitten and tomorrow I will be taking her to the vets. In my backyard their were these two cats that came by every once and a while. They would be so scared at first and then slowly I gained their trust by feeding them. Untill finaly I could see their condition. One was so skinny and the other had a mange on her head and ears..The skinny male cat began I fed for him to gain weight until he was healthy again. I gave the nickname tiger. The female cat with mange looks like a diffrent cat now… I would clean her up with a medicated shampoo until it went away. Her nickname is “viejita” which means old lady in spanish.lol Their my two loves now. I continue to love and take care of every single that passes by my backyard.

  321. Shannon Bohnert Says:

I volunteer at a no kill animal shelter in Avon Lake, Ohio called Love-A-Stray.

  322. Jaimie Provident Says:

I just signed up to give PETA 5 dollars every month =) I know it isn’t much, but I’m sure my 60 dollars a year will help at least one 4 legged friend out there =)

I feed my street dogs almost every day.

There was a dog running around and across the street while my little boy and I were taking a walk. We caught the dog, read its tags, and took it home.

  326. Sharon Says:

I switched to cruelty free products 20 yrs ago, became vegetarian 15 yrs ago and vegan 8 yrs ago. All of the cats I have had were adopted from shelters. I have been a foster parent with a local shelter for the past 4 yrs. I take part in monthly protests against a local Petland store.

  327. Hannah Mitchell Says:

I do not want to nominate myself, but my sister and her husband. Their house is always open to strays. Not only for a home, but a place to collect themselves until they can be found a new home. Not long ago, my brother in law found a dove that had been hit by a car and whose wing was broken. He wrapped the dove in his coat and brought it home. Jess and Brad redid their bathroom in torn up newspaper to make it comfortable and mended the wing. The kept the bird in the bathroom until she could fly again and then introduced her to the guest bedroom until she felt strong enough to fly out the window and rejoin the other birds in the air and the trees. This is one of many great things they have done; from breaking dying dogs out of window boxes to puppies left tied to trees.

  328. Heather Parker Says:

Someone dropped a cat off at my farm and I adopted him into my family, (assuming all the responsibility and cost that goes along with it; even though I do not have alot of money to spare), rather than giving him to a shelter or (another) adoption agency. We took to eachother, and I would rather pay the extra vet bills, then have him feel abandoned again if I had the choice.

  329. Stephanie Grant Says:

I help out at my local animal shelter on my days off.

  330. Victoria Says:

We recently adopted a cat and are keeping her claws right where they belong. :)

  331. Liz Says:

I just forwarded Dave Navarro’s ad to my sister since her mother in law actually still wears fur! She claims to be an animal lover, hopefully his video will encourage her to longer support such a horrible industry.

  332. Renee Says:

I’m a college student living paycheck to paycheck and I donate whatever I can to the Seattle Humane Society every year. <3

  333. Diana Says:

I recently bought a device, to give my dog a bath with, that hooks up to the showerhead pipe, has a circular motion water nozzel and has the soap right in the holder pod. Now I can keep my little girl clean & comfortable much more often, with more comfort for both of us. The cost was less than two groomer’s baths & that included lots of extra soap. I’m somewhat stoveup from an accident years ago, live on disability, have adopted 5 cats & the dog, so $ is an issue - but we’re set for a long while now. Doubt the cats would appreciate the ease & luxury much though. We can all make at least a small difference in the creatures we share our earth with, can’t we.

  334. Agnes Says:

I dog sit, which includes massages.

  335. Toni Says:

We rescued all three of our little chihuahua’s, two of them from Craigslist and one from a family member. Our cat was a rescue too. They are all spoiled and we love them.

  336. Jessika Says:

    Wow , PETA i love you =]

  337. annette Says:

Every moment of every day I am mindful of my goal of a peaceful planet. I have shifted from vegetarian to vegan life and embrace my fellow creatures as beings who exist for their own magnificent reasons. Happily, so many people are curious about my choice and that gives me the opportunity to create further positive change. I love animals, the planet, and living light and clean.

  338. Patrice Says:

I am a long time volunteer at a rabbit sanctuary.

  339. Elizabeth Says:

This past year I’ve been really proud of myself because I’ve cut out all meat except fish. After reading much on fishing and what it does to the environment, I’m working on cutting that out too. Also, after hearing Ingrid speak at my local Borders about her new book, I pledged to change the milk in my coffee to soy milk which I have done ever since and have concentrated on cutting out as much dairy as I can from my diet. I am certainly a work in progress, but I know I’ll ge there.

  341. lori Says:

I volunteer every weekend at my local shelter.

  342. Stacey Critzer Says:

A few months ago, I took in a little kitten that someone had discarded along the road near my home. He had a broken leg, fleas, earmites, and worms. He is healthy now and such a great cat! I also recently switched from using Iams (which my veterinarian suggested) to cruelty-free products for my cat. We are in the process of finding which ones he likes best. I took the Iams to the local animal shelter so that it would not go to waste.

  343. Kristen Scharer Says:

I agree with the whales at Sea World an animal in captivity is not ment to be trained for human entertainment and completely side with the animal.

  344. Jesse Pena Says:

First of all, everyday I pray to GOD(the higher power?), to please ease the suffering of our fellow living creature that ain’t so human. And I pray hard.
Secondly, with in mind that people are not bad just ill inform, I try to explain the pros of healthy vegetarian life style!

  345. Libby O Says:

I had a mature chat with my aunt encouraging her to adopt dogs rather than get them from breeders. :D

  346. Denise Says:

I just joined PETA and have quit eating meat since watching the gruesome videos, which helped.
We also adopted a kitten from the Dumb Friends League. This particular spunky kitten has a deformity in one eye so she needs extra care.
I sign petitions to stop animaml cruelty, and pass them to a large email list so others can do the same.
I plan on getting more involved as I hear about new ways to prevent animal cruelty.
    Thank you.

  347. Courtney Says:

I have been a vegetarian for 21 years. My son recently turned 4 yrs old. I raise him as a vegetarian, but more importantly I show him the reasons why its important. Compassion Love and Understanding - Lessons that will last forever

  348. Gabrielle Says:

I printed out a few of those animal cruelty-free Valentines Day cards from the Peta2 site and gave them to my friends and my mom and encouraged them to buy cruelty free!

I also went to the Best Friends animal sanctuary in Utah and volunteered there with my mom, my cousin, and my aunt. We took two dogs Bauble and Widget out for a drive and a walk out in a park.

  349. Chant Says:

I must really be honest that I don’t have a pet of my own as I am allergic to fur. So I just wrote a letter, composed by me, for Tilly killer whale. I read the news and I felt compassion for Tilly and the trainer. Amazing that they could not find the answer to the incident, why? It is because it is in their hearts..Let the animals have their real homes. If we keep them, they will be evidently be smart enough to say to us, “Hey if you don’t release me here, I’ll do…such crazy things?” Dangerous? Yes. It is crazy to be in an empty room for humans AND for killer whales like Tilly, being in the same small pool for years is the same. One can really be crazy! So I believe, I am proud of my contribution to save Tilly.

  350. GypsyLady Says:

in 1974 i save my dog (who was just 4 years old) from an abusive family who after using him for stud services was abusing him until a friend had visited them and observed the treatment they was giving the dog, they took the dog away from them…I found him from the Hawaii Dog Foundation and learn his fate and adoptd him…i will never forget how i met him…He is a very sweet dog and i still have him to this day/2010. He is 10 years old now.

  351. stacy m. Says:

I have been a vegetarian for 2 years and no longer use leather. I no longer use products which have been tested on animals and contain animal products. I also sign every petition that comes my way.

  352. Helen Says:

Sunday, I was in a demonstration against a rodeo in Tucson, AZ.

  353. Jesse Says:

I work at a petstore and get as many people as possible every single day to pay to feed a dog and cat for a day. My co-workers aren’t very proactive, but I try to ask every person who comes through the store every day I work. I can’t afford to donate that much myself so I’ve made it my personal mission to give these shelter animals as much as possible. I encourage people to adopt pets instead of buying them bc there are soo many animals that need good loving homes. I try to reinforce love and positive reinforcement for dogs instead of violence and punishment. I refuse to sell shock collars to anyone. It’s inhumane, cruel, and torture!

  354. Vivien Smith Says:

I have shared my home with animals since I was a small child and all have either come from a shelter or been strays. I recently adopted my 20th - a 5 year old Golden Retriever Cross called Candy. Her gentleness and friendliness have won over both my cats - Smudge (once a stray) and Dusky (from the same animal shelter as Candy) - and they are now all firm friends.

  355. colleen r. gray-mackey Says:

my 2 companion animals are both rescues. in addition to that i have been vegan for the past 10 years.

  356. Candice DuBois Says:

Both of our “babies” are rescue dogs. We have a Jack Russell named Sparky who was neglected, & is now in wonderful shape.(and my best friend!)
And an English Bulldog named Sophie. She was neglected & abused :( She is still going through heartworm treatments, but vet says it looks good.
I don’t know how anyone could have mistreated her; she is the most loving & gentle creature.
We LOVE our rescued animals and will probably have more in the future.
    P.S.
    Both girls are spayed :)

  357. Kajsa Says:

I adopted a neglected dog, she is just adorable. I have also sent money to an organization which supports castration projects for stray dogs in Romania.

  358. yazmin edington Says:

~I’m a vegan, as is my entire family. I do my best to educate those who are willing to listen (or just join us at our dinner table for a lovely, delicious vegan meal). Consequently, I’ve successfully converted at least 6 carnivores.
    ~I’m a certified veterinary technician.
~Myself, my children and my husband all volunteer at a local shelterhere in Italy where the animals literally will spend the rest of their days in absolute filth and virtually starving, becuase the Italain governement has such ridiculious laws regarding animals and the “shelters” who “care” for them.
~We are working hard everyday to bring awareness to our military community about the shelters in the Italian community where homeless animals can be adopted, rather than buying from a breeder. We do this by posting flyers with the facts and adreess for these shelters and we go every few weeks to take photos and tell the stories of these animals.
~We donate monthly to PETA and the HSUS.
~My pets always have been and will be rescues.
~My husband and I are diligently working to change the laws/regulations in our community to help stray/abandoned/neglected animals (we live overseas on a military installation). It may even cost my husband his military career, but he’s an honorable man and doesn’t care as long as he can say that he always advocated for the most humane treatment for these helpless creatures.
~We used to foster sick/wounded animals until the military told us that we were not permitted to do this. We are working to amend those rules as well.

  361. ROBERTA Says:

I START TO USE PRODUCT TO CLEAN MY HOUSE THAT ARE CRUELTY FREE ( AND I AM VERY HAPPY TO DO IT!!!!!)

  363. Catherine Says:

I have recently organized a beach clean-up group in hopes that we will pick up the trash and prevent it from getting into our oceans and hurting the sea life as well as our water fowl. Hundreds of sea gulls die every year from starvation because their stomachs are filled with plastic and other indigestible objects as do other sea creatures. We go to different beaches and so far have prevented a lot of plastic and trash from entering our oceans. I also donate what I can, whether it be blankets or food to animal shelters to help provide for the animals. I am always signing petitions and sending letters that are fighting for animal rights and emailing friends to increase their awareness of how they can help save animals lives.

  364. Heather Says:

  367. Linda Fish Says:

    taking cat food to shelter

  368. Deirdre Campbell-Alston Says:

I recently returned from a 6 week work stint in Paris. While there I took every opportunity to speak out against the wearing of real fur and eating of animals to my co-workers that were forced to eat in restaurants that offered cruelty-free dining options the entire time.

at least once a week I feed the wild ducks at the local park.usually a 5 gallon bucket of food.. they need it to help keep up their fat stores for winters here. 376. Jamie Hutchinson Says:

I have just switched to a vegetarian diet. Last night was actually my first (that I can remeber) meal I have had without any meat.

  377. Emilie L. Parker Slaney Says:

I’m a vegan. I’ve been so for almost a year.
I take great care of my 2 cats, my dog, and my rat.
I pick up trash I see outside, so any animals won’t get hurt or sick.
I stood up to dissection this week, also. I told my teacher I refuse to take part, and that it is extremely against my morals and is very disturbing. I urged other students to follow me in demanding an alternative assignment. I may have a 3 page paper to write, but I know it’s worth it.
I plan to adopt another kitten from a shelter, and give it a nice home with other cats to play with.
I work hard to make money and spend a lot of it on my pets to make sure they’re healthy and happy.
I urged my school to offer more vegetarian/vegan friendly options for lunch, and they actually came through.
I never wear fur, leather, wool, or anything else that doesn’t belong on me. It’s not mine to wear.
That’s about all for now, but every day I make sure I do something to help animals and the environment. <3

I am a minister, and after worship the other day, I walked into my study and saw a large beetle sitting on my desk. I put a cup down for him to walk into, then I brough him out and showwed him to the children, telling them that he was one of God’s creatures and that I was going to let him outside. They agreed and told me stories of creatures they had let out of their homes.

  379. Linda Says:

My mom and me have rescued 21 dogs, which are in our house very happy. All of them are spayed. We are very proud of it and we really want to help more dogs. We also have given many others in adoption, but there are still many dogs in the streets. Please help, adopt, don’t buy! We first think in them, in their needs, their food, medical care, the responsability that an owner and all the love that have to be given to their pets!

  380. Kim Bush Says:

I just took in a 3rd dog as a foster. First time fostering. He was next in line to be euthanized at a very rural pound. Turns out he had mange and cost us a few hundred dollars but he’s worth it!

I was at a business and they had captured a lone baby skunk in a trash can. They were going to kill it! I convinced them to wait until I called for help to try and rescue the poor thing.

  384. Emily Diaz-Burns Says:

Our pets are rescue pets abandoned by others, other than our rabbit who was a gift. We changed their diets to grain/cruelty free products and use natural/organic products for them and the environment. A couple of times a year we collect items we no longer need towels, collars, beds, carriers and donate them to SPCA and local shelters to use. We also give them our old towels to bathe and comfort rescues. We frequently call about runaways and have a buttlerfly/avian pestcontrol free backyard. We gave our neighbors plants and ideas to do the same.
    Have a great day!!!!!

  385. Alicia Says:

I have been talking to local restaurants and food service companies to try to encourage them to offer more vegetarian and vegan options.

  386. Alysha Cable Says:

The most significant thing I have done for animals (and for myself) recently is to become vegetarian. Most days I am vegan, and seem to be transitioning more and more to being fully vegan. I have also been becoming more aware of, and active in animal welfare through PETA. These changes have not only helped animals, but have helped me to grow as person as well!

  387. Ashley Says:

I have become a vegetarian! One week so far, and feeling GREAT!

  388. rita Says:

had muskrats destroying my garden and lawn, 12 of them to be exact (who knew there were so many near me when there was no rivers nearby), all the neighbors told me to poison them but instead we bought a humane trap and relocated them to a park area, not without first taking a picture of the cute furry troublemakers, so they were happy and we were the heros of the neighborhood!

  389. Suzanne Lawson Says:

I am taking care of my own 18-year old cat by helping her with her kidney disease and having her teeth attended to.

  390. Jessica Maynard Says:

I volunteer with a dog rescue here in Atlanta and I held dogs at adoptions last weekend. We had several get adopted!

  391. Kimberley Says:

Most recently, I have stopped on the side of the road when I had seen 2 dogs, obviously lost. I found their tags, and called the owner. The owner came and was soo thankful.

  392. Amanda Says:

i just registered my team “applause for paws” for the animal humane society’s walk for animals in minneapolis. i donated $100 to kickstart my fundraising!

  393. cydney linch Says:

I have been an avid vegitarian since i was eleven years old. My teacher took us to a local meat market and i was able to see first hand how the animals were put down and treated before hand. I went home that night, after looking into the many eyes of innocent animals waiting to be killed without a second thought, and told my parents how i felt, and the way i wanted to live my life. My parents were supportive of my choice. Once i was on my own i really began looking into cruelty free products and the benefits of using orgainic products. I was so surprised at how our country became so ignorant, and that nobody was strong enough to admitt that its wrong. I believe that people dont want to know the truth because they are too lazy and ignorance is bliss, right? I am a teacher myself now and make it a point to teach respect for all living creatures. I want my kids to know the truth and hope that they will make a stand in their lifetime as well.

  394. Hannah Says:

I have been volunteering at a rescue ranch weekly for 6 months. I not only clean up the animals and their living spaces, but I hold and love them, and talk to them. Especially the chickens, whom I love dearly…they love their waddles massaged, and their toes. I also love to hug the horses and brush and hug the donkey.

I absolutely adore animals and believe in being drug free in all areas of my life, so our water supplies and trash bins are rid of these chemicals that can harm ALL life.

Thank you for letting me be a part of PETA.

  395. Carolyn Wayne Says:

I recently found a little dog wandering in my neighborhood. He was very defensive and wouldn’t let me get close to him, but I was afraid he was going to get hit by a car if I didn’t do something, and it was very cold out, so I called the humane society and waited as near to the dog as he would let me get until they arrived. I was very late for work!

  396. Rachael Williams Says:

All of my pets are rescues. I have a sheltie/border collie dog that’s 6, a tuxedo cat that’s 9, a bunny from the Humane Society…
even some of my fish are rescues!

  397. Zosia Hafso Says:

I gave a speech on animal right at a Toastmaster’s meeting.

  398. Melissa Says:

I make sure every person who cannot keep their animals take them to a non killing animal sanctuary instead of a shelter where they might kill them due to lack of homes. I also am a vegetarian and very happy that I know I do not kill animals for food and I encourage everyone I know to be a vegetarian. I also donate anything I can do animal organizations and keep everyone up to date with the latest animal cruelty news and if there is something I can do I will do.

  399. Alysha Hales Says:

Most recently, I’ve been sticking PETA stickers all over town, including on sign posts, the sides of buses’ etc. Along with that, I’m in the middle of organizing an animal rights demo to take place in mid April, while, of course, continuing to eat only vegan foods, avoid wearing animals skins, and using only cruelty-free products.
Anytime I get a chance, I always inform people about the different cruelties induced to animals in places like factory farms, the circus, clothing companies, and even sea world, and hopefully, am helping to change some minds.
I try my best to support companies who do not exploit animals, and in return, boycott the companies that do. I live an entirely vegan lifestyle and try to promote that to others in as many ways as possible.

  400. Lauren Says:

-In December i rescued a chihuahua that had been run over by her owner, not once but twice, and the owner knew she was hurt but left her to die in a dog house. Her spinal column was severed and she will never be able to walk again. I took her to a sanctuary in Texas, SARA Sanctuary, were i volunteer ALOT. And to improve her odds of being adopted, i built her a custom doggie wheelchair.
-I help out low income families by helping them get their dog or cat spayed or neutered. I give them a ride to the vet and everything.
And over the summer i rescued a mexican hairless (dog) from his cruel owners who were going to shot him just because they didnt want him anymore. He too had been run over, but his broken leg was never treated, so it had to be amputated.
-I also rescued a kitten that had been left in a bird cage in a back yard with no food or water for three days in the hot texas summer sun! And in his attempts to escape he rubbed all the skin off his lower jaw and nose.
-I also gave a under weight dog water and food, who was tied up with no food or water to a tree, and helped the owner get her spayed and take care of her better.
I love animals and have rescued several animals from their abusers and im only 18 years old. i have been vegan since i was fourteen and LOVE it!

  401. Magnolia Says:

As a matter of course I’m vegeatarian (gradually going vegan), I gently share the benefits of this with my carnivore friends (usually by preparing lotsa yummy veggie soups for my non-veggie coworkers), only use eco cleaning products and personal care items, no fur, leather, silk, wool, etc, support animal charities, feed feral cats and volunteer with trap-neuter-release prgrams, etc… hey we all know its a lifestyle. BUT…

What warms my heart the most as a recent good deed for the animals… last fall a pregnant free-roaming (homeless) kitty took up residence in a bug brush pile by the labyrinth at our nonprofit children’s center. The kids and I fed Mommy Cat and her new brood of five adorable kittens as we tried to befriend them so we could find them forever homes. Mommy Cat was skeptical of all of us but did accept our food.

A nasty cat-hating neighbor threatened to have Animal Control come get them if we didn’t “get rid” of them. Faced with the prospect of this looming death sentence for them, we ramped up our efforts and called a wonderful all volunteer cat rescue organization who came out on New Year’ Eve and New Year’s Day to help humanely trap them all (talk about dedication). I paid to get Mommy Cat spayed and all of the kittens are now being fostered and socialized to humans so they can get forever homes. Mommy Cat is back free-roaming and is a bit friendlier but we still are trying to earn her trust. Aside from saving these five beautiful babies, this was an intense lesson for the kids at our center– learning first hand about the plight of animals and developing keen empathy for them. One young boy in particular took this all to heart and still talks about how anials have rights and how can people have such hard hearts that they’d want to kill kittens. I see this fabulous young boy (9 yrs old) blooming into an incredible animal rights activist. His heart overflows for them already. So that’s the best– saving the kittnes, freeing Mommy from future broods, and mentoring my young buddy into unfolding into the animal rights person he already is. Namaste!

  402. Deborah R Says:

We were able to keep our bird feeder full during the heavy snow storms this winter - I know the birds appreciated it because they eat and sing here all day long.

  412. KITCHIE Says:

Some pet owners just don’t have time to walk or play with their pets as much as they would like to, or they may need someone to take care of their beloved critters while they’re away on vacation. That’s where you come i come in… i volunteer to be a pet walker or sitter. i’m a stay at home so when i get the chance i do volunteer or whenever my neighbors ask me to. i may not be be donating money wise but i think for the animals welfare im contributing some. and my daughter and i enjoyed it a lot.

  414. Danielle Dees Says:

I convinced my boyfriend’s sister to not put a shock collar on her dog for his barking. I told her how cruel and un-natural that would be for the dog and asked how would she like it if I did that to her for her talking. I also said I would never talk to her again if she did. So now she says she wont do it.

  415. Cheryl Crane Says:

    Live a vegan lifestyle!

  416. Donna Beasley Says:

I alerted the SPCA to a dog that was being starved. She was so thin that all of her puppies died soon after birth. The dog’s owner actually threatened to sue for being reported, although the SPCA took the dog away from him.

  417. Alison Says:

I joined PETA and am making more changes to have a more animal/earth friendly lifestyle for myself and family everyday.

I had 2 german shepherds, when I got third dog in my home from the street. 9 months before I got the second cat. I feed almost every day some stray dogs in the park. One of them comes every morning outside my office and stands by my car, till I meet and feed him. I`m thinking bringing him home, because one of my dogs died. I tried once puttiing in my car, but he didn`t wanted to. I`ll see..

  422. Heather Kincaid Says:

  425. Ally Says:

Last year I rescued a starving kitten from the snow and took her in and nursed her back to health and decided to name her Madeline (Maddie for short). When I took her to the vet I learned that she had many infections and was severely malnurished. Very soon she became my best friend and was always at my side. She got healthier very soon but before she reached adulthood she was ran over by a passing car and her spine was broken and paralyzed her two back legs. She didn’t survive that night and it broke my heart. I’ve rescued many more animals than just her but she was the one that made the most impression on me and I thought her story was the best to write about.

  426. Téa Mindeli Says:

Most recently I switched my cat’s diet to raw so now she’s happier and healthier, and I also helped raise money for animal shelter by voting for them and spreading the word.

As for me, Ive been a vegetarian all my life and educate other ppl around me also to be a vegetarian. If not stopped my friends have atleast reduced eating meat/fish drastically. I have volunteered, donated and will keep donating to stray shelters were they vaccinate, treat and sterilize dogs. If i get to keep more dogs it’ll definately be adopted from shelters. I recycle and use recycled paper as much as possible. I try and reduce the usage of paper to save the forests and the animals living there. Ive tried to resuce monkeys that are captured and made to perform on the streets. Rescued some cats and dogs in need and got them treated.

Apart from all this I want to nominate my friend and his father who recue birds and animals and treat them and give them shelter at home and in their hearts if they cannot be released. His father is so compassionate that he has applied cream(medicine) to open wounds of a dog everyday without fail and done it with immense love for the animal wen everyone would push the dog away because of the fowl smell of the wound. He has rescued birds (phesant, hawk/kite), monkeys, horse, camel, etc and fed them n taken care of them.

  431. Janice Jones Says:

We have rescued all five of our animals and wouldn’t get a pet any other way.

i most recently saved a cat from the streets and successuflly brought her back to her home.

  434. AAG Says:

The day after the big snowstorm in NYC, Saturday in February, in the COLD weather, I stayed for 6 hours ( I did take a short break)at a demo for carriage horses. The carriage horse drivers hurled insults as only they can do but I stayed my ground with a few friends.

I have worked v. hard on stopping the inhumane BlM roundups of wild horses and with the anti horse slaughter group to try and get horse slaughter banned forever. 443. RJ Says:

The best thing I have ever done for animals is to go vegetarian in 1987 and to eliminate to the best of my ability products that cause harm to animals (fur, leather, cleaning and personal caer products). I learn so much more all the time about how much more there is to do in this area. I have heard earth called “a prison planet” for animals because of how humans treat our fellow creatures. That was a real wake up call.

  448. Polly Harrington Says:

I have stopped using any products that are tested on animals and encouraged friends and families to do the same.

  449. john cielukowski Says:

Always writing letters to the editor of our local paper in support of animal rights. Also feed and care for a feral cat colony.

  450. Joanna Hernandez Says:

I went vegetarian for a few months, although it was hard to keep it up and i started eating meat again, I limited it to only meat once a week and banned restaurants like poeyes, KFC, and McDonalds from my diet. I also help by picket up dogs and taking them to a shelter where there is no euthanasia. I also have a doggy of my own at home and i take care of him and pamper him like if he was my child! GO PETA!

  451. Richard Says:

I took in and fostered a stray cat that showed up at my door recently. I paid for his medical bills and had him fixed. I had hoped to adopt “Lester” myself but my other cats thought differently of that, so he is now at a terrific shelter and they are working hard to find him a forever home.

I’m a vegetarian and I do whatever I can to help animals. I also am an animal advocate and teach others at every opportunity, how to make product choices (whether for personal products or food) that are humane. It’s surprising how many people just are not aware of how cruel many companies are to animals. There is a far better way!

  459. christina Says:

i saved bird from one hungry cat i transported the bird in special place where they take care of such animals found on the streets

  460. Aimee Says:

I have been a vegetarian for 6 years and this weekend I got my fiance and sister to go vegetarian.
    :]

  461. Kristina Says:

Eight days ago, I started our family on a Vegan Lifestyle. I reinforced our decision by having my girls watch Food, Inc. The longer we live as a Vegan family, the more information we find on cruelty to animals. We have explored link after link of information on farm animals, animals used for entertainment purposes and clothing. I am disgusted and hope that my children continue in with the endeavor to treat animals with kindness long after they move away from home.

We appreciate all the efforts of the PeTA Organization!

  465. Sheree Bala Says:

I volunteer at a wildlife center in Lynnwood, WA called PAWS (Progressive Animal Welfare Society). There I help with the feeding of hurt wildlife that is brought into the center by the compassionate public. There we try to rehabilitate all the animals that come to the center so we can release them back into the wild. Some of the animals that come to our center are bears, bobcat, beavers, raccoons, opossums, all types of songbirds, seabirds, eagles, hawks to name a few. PAWS is truly an incredible organization.

  466. Maggie Says:

I recently donated to a local no-kill animal shelter. I’m a teacher and a student’s cat accidentally got pregnant and had kittens. We’re currently finding homes for all of them and helping her get the momma cat spayed.
    Adopt, don’t buy!!!! :)

  467. Adrianna Edwards Says:

I decided to become a vegitarian at age 16, I’m now 18 so 2 yrs. I love animals so much i thought why would i eat them!?!? I used to catch the stray cats in my back yard when i was younger, and I would tame them and my parents would pay to have them spayed and then we would find good homes for them! My dog i own now actually is one who came to my back door and we kept her, she had been abused as a puppy but now she is the best dog ever… even though she always steals the covers at night, she is spoiled. :) Im never going to eat meat again! i also just convinced my best friend to become vegitarian!!

  468. Rob Says:

I am a huge animal lover and advocate. I’m a strict vegetarian (vegan), I answer peoples questions about vegetarian diet, and I inform people about the horrors of the intensive industrialized farming of animals and other ways they’re abused. You may be surprised at the number of people who have no clue about it, and how quickly they decide to make changes in their lives to make a difference.

  469. Carla Says:

I have adopted and cared for until passing from this world at least 30 dogs and a few cats, rabbits and rodents, most of which were abandoned or on death row. I long to see those that have left me for now and are waiting on the other side of this world. As for the 8 dogs and 1 cat that I currently share my world with…I will see them when I get home today! Yea!

  470. Jennifer Levelwind Says:

I did a homecheck for a group that adopts rescued wheaten terriers to suitable homes. And I give my dog and cat tons of love, teaching my children the value of caring for our animal friends.

  471. Sibylle Hartmann Says:

I wrote a letter to President Obama and to Michelle Obama telling them that Health Care starts with eating a healthy diet that should ideally be Vegan. I told him that prevention is everything and that Vegetarians and Vegans live a healthier, longer life and that Insurance companies should consider this and give Vegetarians/Vegans a discount. I also sent them Artwork I have done about NO OIL DRILLING in Alaska and SAVE THE ARCTIC NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE.

  473. magnolia0121 Says:

The best thing I’ve done recently for animals is to rescue a litter of feral kittens and their Mommy, get the Mommy spayed and to help find forever homes for the kittens. Sharing the experience with a young boy who is already very devoted to animals helped him learn an important lesson about how tough life can be for animals. He knows that he can do something to make a difference for them. I see an animal activist blossoming and it warms my heart.

  474. Jamie Amoratis Says:

For animals, most recently, I have taken my cat to be neutered ..as animal over-population is a serious concern in the world! and then I took in a kitten(we named Blanket)((a la Michael Jackson)) for a few months because a family did not want her. When I decided to put her up for adoption, I charged $30, because a Free Cat could have meant the end for her! I text msg the lady who adopted her and we regularly communicate and she most recently sent me a few picture messages from her cellphone. I not only made sure the cat was going to be looked after and taken care of..I am STILL making sure!! : D Also.. When my mom’s 2 dogs (J-J and Buddy) escaped from her yard, about a month ago..I made SURE that they address the problem with their fencing immediately then-after… *They live in Reading and the roads are big and they were down at the park, down the block..but it’s a very dangerous thing!!!–not to mention I rounded up my siblings, whom I was watching that day..and we alll took the walk quickly downhill to find them!! I ALSO ordered a few Peta comics for my son, for free, under the KIDS section of your website that I am expecting any day now. If allowed..I’d love to be able to order more for his class at school… = )

  475. Eduardo Says:

i have recently educated myself, with help from PETA, on how factory farm animals are treated and went vegan immediatly (after being raised by meat-eaters), refusing to buy any animal by-products since then (thank you PETA) or anything that was tested on animals or wearing fur, buying organic whenever I can, as well as signing countless petitions on PETA on whatever i can help with. I have also added PeTA videos to my myspace for all to see =]
I have always cared about animals and it always has been common sense to me that it is our job to protect, rescue and nurture nature and animals, that being from others who are willing to do just the opposite… so thanks again PeTA, your links and websites really made it happen, and thank you Nature’s Gate, for your devotion to natural, safe, cruelty-free products!

  476. Bethany Says:

Well, first I am vegan. I am close to my one-year mark and by not consuming animals and animal by-products, I am doing a small part. I also encourage others to not eat meat and try to serve them vegan meals.

Directly, I have been trying to adopt a stray cat from our area shelter. In addition, I have been trying to seek help for a cat in my basement that my neighbors are neglecting.

  477. kelly Says:

i sign many petitions to help save animals from cruelty.

  478. Roberta Says:

After learning the cruelty of animals being slaughter for our everyday food i have finally became a vegetarian a year ago and knowing the suffering that the little animals go through in labs testing i have cleared out any products in my house that were animals tested and now i am only purchasing animals friendly products. I am a monthly donor for both PETA and ASPCA, for the past 7 months i sheltered 2 cats by providing them food and a place to keep themselves warm and away from the winter snow.

  479. Ashley Says:

I became a vegetarian and am spreading the word! :)

  480. Jason McGuire Says:

I do what I can by making informed decisions when shopping. Not buying clothing made with animal products, not buying items tested on animals. The best thing for me was to go vegan. Never felt better. Using Facebook is also a great way of informing others on what they can do to.

For many years i have donated by direct debit to RSPCA and Cats Protection. I am also a member of the RSPB.
On holiday recently in Southern Ireland we came across a sheep very distressed because it’s horn was caught up in the fence. With some difficulty we managed to disintangle it and it wondered off much happier.

  483. Allan Says:

I am now looking after a stray cat that was in my garden and saved her kittens.

  484. Julie Booth Says:

I go jogging with my dog every day. It benefits Woody, and it will raise money for cancer as I am in training for The Race for Life.

  485. Phillipa Says:

I save worms and snails from the pavement, I even leave the house 10 minutes early if its been raining because I know there will be more around. It gets funny looks but its worth it knowing they wont be squashed :)

  486. April Bonia Says:

I rescued a black Persian cat from an animal shelter!

  487. Merissa Acerbi Says:

What I have done for animals lately is donating money to the animal rescue teams that are currently in Haiti trying to help with the large number of homeless pets on the streets.

  493. Jill Says:

I just signed up to volunteer at the PETA HQ’s!

  494. Kristin Says:

I work at a humane society. i strive everyday to educate people and make the shelter better. we are not getting an addition and a lot of rules have been changed. i live my life to spread the word. after work i go home to learn more about products and testing. we have rescued a pit bull (Jonah), and Shep mix with no back hip sockets (Hades), 3 cats (Cora, Murderface and Mr. Meowgi), and 3 birds…. my next step is to sneak into the new dairy farm built by my dads.. i never see them outside.. but they will see grass and daylight soon. :)

  498. Heather McDonough Says:

I helped a stray cat get adopted!

  499. Karen Says:

I worked for 4 years at an animal shelter and ended up with 5 dogs and 5 cats. I spend my time loving these incredible animals and feel so blessed to be able to do so. When I walk my dogs I pass by a chained dog that doesn’t get enough to eat. I toss him food and have reported this to animal control. They claim there is nothing they can do as the dog has a dog house. We have no anti-chaining law here and this dog is inspiring me to get one on the books. I try to live my life for the critters in every way I can. They have given me so much. It is the least I can do and it is never enough.

  507. Taylor Says:

I STOPPED patronizing KFC immediately upon hearing about the chickens’ abuse from your org!! I feel ashamed I was so naive, but! I learned the truth & now they have 1 less customer!

ps: in addition, I am more & more vegan every day!!

  508. Ramya Says:

I have been a vegetarian from past 28 years… im really proud to be one. And i have managed to inspire my fellow friends to be a vegetarian. i help animals in every possible tiny way i can!

i have lot of stray cats, orphaned ones which keep roaming around my home and in the lane where my house is located… so, i look after them by feeding them food. At first i just leave the food in a bowl in my corridor and wait for these cats to come and have the food, when they pass by my home. At first they are very hesitant (cuz these orphaned cats are really scared of humans), but as days goes by,,,, they gain so much confidence that they visit daily to have food from the bowl i have placed…. im surprised that if the food gets empty they stand at my doorstep and “meow” (asking for more food). also they allow me to groom them… and give medicines when they are ill…. i feel really happy about this.

i feel there is no need to spend huge amount of money… and buy a pet. We can make a difference by just taking care of the orphaned animals right next to us….

  509. Nicky Russell Says:

I have become a Vegetarian. I ve been thinking about it for a few years. It’s no hardship, BUT, I am really proud of myself :):):)

  510. Rebecca Gibson Says:

I recently picked up a stray cat from the gas station who looked hungry and sick. I took her to the vet, got her all healed up and found her a home. Sometimes you just have to do what’s right and not turn away, because its easier and doesn’t cost a thing. Animals need us!!

  511. Marcia Barnes Says:

I have adopted 2 dogs from a kill shelter within the past 2 years! I have begun reading information on the Peta website and have immediately changed my eating habits! No more animals and no more meat! Today is a new day in my life!

  513. Wehaf Says:

I donated to the local humane society

  514. GINA STEVENS Says:

We adopted a rescued dog, for Christmas, that had been abandoned-found wandering in the streets. This morning, 3/11/2010, I heard Walter Leonidas Raphael whimpering and found he had thrown up in his crate. I cleaned out his crate, put his pillow in the washer and put a clean blanket in his crate for him. This was at 5am!! Walter is taking a nice, cozy nap as I am writting this.

I always use environmentally safe products that are not tested on animals.

  515. Subhor Dubey Says:

I regularly keep writing to various companies who ct cruelly towards animals through peta’s newsletters and practice vegetarianism.

  516. Lyndsie DeVito Says:

My husband and I are in the process of becoming vegetarians. We no longer eat red meat, but are working on cutting out the chicken and pork. This is a HUGE deal for us because we were major STEAK eaters!!!

We also moved to the mountains so that we and our doggies could have a better life away from the city. Our dogs now get to run and play in the fresh air!

We are members and give monthly pledges to the ASPCA, use the Western PA Humane Society as our vet and are also donating members there as well.

We feel that all animals should be treated like we would want to be treated, like we would treat our own kids!

I have also volunteered for Angels for Animals shelter, helping victimized and stray animals find loving homes, raise donations so that vaccines and spay/neutering can be completed and provide love to the animals.

WE LOVE ANIMALS…. what can I say??

  517. Lyndsie DeVito Says:

Oh we also do NOT buy any products (cleaning, makeup….) in which animals were used as test subjects or which the products were made from animal products. We spread the word about companies like clorox who test on animals… DISGUSTING!!!

Our dogs even eat all natural, organic, vegetarian food!!!

  518. Karina Says:

I went vegetarian over three years ago and this year have started hosting Meatless Monday dinners at my house for family and friends to discover how yummy and awesome eating meat-free meals can be!

  519. Elizabeth Roman Says:

My boyfriend and I are both vegans and donate money to PETA every year. I recently adopted a feral cat and got him neutered. I also take in rats from rescues and rehabilitate them. I’m also starting a program at my church where I cook vegan delicacies for shut-ins and bring it to them- there’s nothing like sharing veganism with the world!

  520. Mark Beasley Says:

My wife and i aren’t as “extreme” as some of these other people…but we do take care of our animals…with our dogs it’s regular trips to the vets. Our horse has her nails trimmed every 6 weeks. We have a birdbath with bird feeders in our backyard, as we are always planting trees, shrubs, and bushes to give them a natural environment to live in. And we put corncobs out for our family of squirells.

  521. Jillian Gilpin Says:

I have several pets and always take care of them and help out with my friends and neighbors. But back in the fall a poor baby bat fell out of a tree and got hurt, i kept it for a few days researched what the type eats and fed it until i got a call back from a rehabilitator in my area. I grew fond of my adorable night time friend, but after a few days we did what the expert said to put it back in a tree and he should be fine because he couldnt fly while laying on the ground. It felt nice to take care of something most wouldnt have touched because of disease

  522. Linda Fast Says:

I tame & feed all the ferrel cats in my neighbourhood and then take them to shelters or find the cats a nice home to live in where they are loved.

  523. Sarah Says:

My dog is a rescue from a shelter. We also help wildlife by planting trees and flowers in our yard that will give birds, butterflies & bees shelter, food and water.

  524. Mary Stuart Says:

I adopted an older dog. I do research on products before i buy them. I am a vegetarian and have recently re-committed to a vegan lifestyle.

  525. Mary Jude Says:

Our daisy troop recently baked dog biscuits for Stray Rescue and donated $100 to the cause. We had a person come in and talk about the rescued and fostered dogs and the girls asked wonderful questions and now we have a great group of 1st graders who are eager to help out a no kill shelter and their furry neighborhood canines.

  526. lynn Says:

My cat Smokie was abandoned five years ago. He is a wonderful cat. He is such a joy. I encourage everyone to adopt an animal.

I have been vegan for two years and counting! I rescued both of my dogs, only use products that not only do not include animal products but also have not been tested on animals.
I also help friends, family members, and sometimes complete strangers with tips on how to make this world a better place (for us and the animals). I have a blog were I post about living the most planet friendly vegan life possible.
My two dogs were both rescues, as were the 3 my mother have (I rescued them for her).

  529. Kristin Says:

This may not sound like a huge step, but two weeks ago I decided to stop eating meat and animal bi-products! I took PETAS 30 day pledge and I feel amazing! Because I’m forced to read the labels on everything to avoid eating poor animals I am more aware of what I am eating! I usually have stomach issues and haven’t in two weeks! I love telling everyone about my new life style and how simple it is to find alternate sources of nutrition. No animal deserves to die, when humans have other alternatives! Hunting and slaughtering are no longer needed for survival, now its just cruelty!

  530. Madi Hartman Says:

I recently saved a kitty from a nasty man who hardly fed her. He told me he had to move soon and he was just going to leave her outside, so i snatched her! I’ve also been a vegetarian for two and a half years. My best friend just planned to be vegan for a month so she’s coming over this week and I’m going to cook her a nice, multi-course meal. :)

  531. stephanie ross Says:

I have recently adopted a beautiful cat from a local humane society, which by the way has a no kill policy! I try to use organic cruelty free products as much as ican, and i am obviously a vegetarian…i want to eventually be 100% vagan

  536. Andrea Says:

I recently turned Vegan from vegetarian, plus i volunteer at my local humane society and i volunteer at the local rabbit rescue and rehab here in town!

  537. Leila Richardson Says:

I have been a vegetarian for 20 years. I do eat dairy, but buy only products from organic and/or grass fed cows and free roaming chickens. I also do not purchase products tested on animals. I also try to take care of the environment in general, which, of course, benefits all animals.

  538. Megan Crawford Says:

I volunteer at the animal shelter down the street. I am also a vegetarian and am trying to be vegan now :)

  539. kathryn schrier Says:

I adopted a cat from the shelter on 12/22/09 and had him fixed, paid for Dr visits and meds for diarrhea and “kitty cough” and totally and completely fell in love with him. Unfortunately, the most loving thing I could do for him was to put him to sleep last Monday because he was born with FIP. I know that doesn’t sound very good, but he was suffocating and I loved him enough to do that.

  540. Benita Says:

I found a stray dog, took it home, found out who its owner was and returned him 4 days later and two pounds fatter. (I bought him milkbones.)

  541. Pintu Says:

I recently changed to be a Vegan from Vegetarianism!

  542. Kathy Wilson Says:

In four years time I have rescued and had most fixed, 42 cats. I trap them, tame them if they are feral…have the scars to prove it! Then I find homes for them.

  543. michelle young Says:

As an artist, I’ve begun working on a project where I will be painting animals from our local no-kill animal shelters and donating part of the proceeds to those shelters. I’m writing the proposal now and the project should be in full swing within 2 months.

  544. OISHIMAYA SEN Says:

In India, our stray dogs and cats are subjected to a lot of cruelty.Whenever possible,I protest.I give shelter to stray cats only as I don’t have space in my home for dogs.I try to defend animals and be their voice because I know that they are no different from us.I am involved in online campaigning for animal welfare.Animal sacrifice in the name of religion is what I hate!I am trying to improve myself everyday so that I can be strong enough to help the animals in need.

  545. Devon Platfoot Says:

As VP of a club my friends and I started at school called TIWI (Teens Involve in World Issues), we do causes each month to help raise awareness in school and our community about different issues. This month we chose animal cruelty as our cause. We’re sharing information to raise awareness about puppy mills and how they should be stopped and we’re doing a pet toy/ pet food drive. We will donate everything that we collect from the drive to local no-kill animal shelters.

  546. Kadance Says:

    I don’t eat meat!

  548. Mary Jane Pike Says:

I feed and care for a colony of about 12 feral cats as well as the four rescue dogs and 7 house cats we have. We also donate food to the local humane society. We recently rescued one of the ferals that had a badly abcessed leg from a cat fight and took him to the vet to be treated and neutered. We have been keeping him in the guest room of our home until he is healed. He has one more doctor appointment, so hopefully he can go back out soon. He is truly a feral cat and does not wish to be tamed in any way! The scratches on my hands and arms just from doing his litter and feeding him has told me that. We really haven’t been doing anything any different from anyone else and we do use Nature’s Gate products. We don’t believe in washing our hair or body in cruelty and suffering. Thank you.

  549. Natalie Says:

I found an abandoned pair of kittens in the park last week. They were dirty, hungry, and so cute! I took them in and cleaned them up. I have four animals already and the city code won’t allow me to keep more animals than 4. Luckily, I found a home for both kitties together and they have a happy ending!
It’s important we make choices that impact animals in not only what we eat….but how we treat those animals that are here now and need us.

  550. Randyne Says:

I recently posted a link on Facebook for my friends to watch the documentary “Earthlings”
I think people need to be more educated in what exactly is going on in this world and where there food is coming from. If this was shown to me in school growing up I would have changed my ways much earlier in life rather then living in the shadows of denial! It’s truly important!

  551. Ellen Says:

I volunteer with a service group at my daughter’s middle school and we just had a huge collection drive for our local humane society, the zoo and a local bird sanctuary and delivered all of the donations to the three animal organizations.

  552. deborah wheeler Says:

I work as a volunteer for Cats Protection - treausuer and fundraiser for my local branch and recently back from holiday in Sri Lanka where my husband and I fed and watered the stray dogs living at the hotel and also a cat and 3 kittens even though the hotel had signs up not too - the animal were starving and very thirsty - no water for them to drink apart from the swimming pool - made sure when we left we “handed over” the animals to other British people to keep feeding and looking after. Wrote to the Sri Lankan embassy in the UK and the British Embassy over there on our return to register our disgust at the treatment of the animals - breeding everywhere no neutering programme!

  553. Katie Ramirez Says:

In one of my classes, I recently gave a speech on the benefits of a vegetarian diet & lifestyle -such as helping the environment, preventing animal cruelty, and a healthier body overall. This was a really great opportunity for me to help some of my classmates realize that it’s really easy to be vegetarian, and it feels really good to make a decision that you know will do your body, the animals, and the universe a better place. A few students even came up to me after class and told me they planned to try it out!

  554. Jennifer Ree Meador Says:

I foster kitties in my home for Friends of Strays, a no-kill animal shelter in Saint Petersburg, FL. I tend to get the pregnant mommas or newly born litters, so my house is usually a zoo! meowwwwwwww!

  560. Schoen Heier Bonura Says:

I pledged to be a vegatarian for Lent this year. I have not missed meat for a moment. As I get older, my conscienceness is growing at leaps and bounds for our animal friends. Yes, it does make me feel that “warm fuzzy” down deep inside for doing what is right, but this isn’t about me. I feel that as living beings, it is our duty to protect and help other living beings!

  561. rjmuffians Says:

Its simple. I believe in living my life by what Machaelle Small Wright said— “behaving as if the god in all life matters” …. because it does.

Do I slip? You betcha. But I keep on trying, and little by little get a little better. And I try not to be obnoxious about it… just do it quietly.

  562. Rose Says:

Since December I have been helping my local No Kill animal shelter by providing food and water to a colony of feral cats a few days a week. I also brought a “care package” to another No Kill shelter (where I adopted my newest addition) which consisted of 50+ cans of cat food, blankets, and toys.

I regularly Trap-Neuter-Release stray cats in my neighborhood, adopted 1 to a vet’s nurse, and have taken inside my home 3 adorable cats that rule the roost! I am currently going toe-to-toe with my homeowners association (a.k.a. Nazi Club), as they recently sent out a newsletter instructing homeowners who are experiencing “nuisance cats” to trap them and turn them over to Animal Control (a.k.a. the Death Panel). Also, I have been a vegetarian for 2+ years and well on my way to grown-up Vegan. (Darn the yummy ice cream!)

I run a one-woman TNR program for stray cats out of my apartment. In addition to my own 7 cats and 1 dog, I’m presently caring for 5-6 cats that “live” on my porch and several more at the front of my apartment complex. Once the weather stabilizes, probably in the next week or two, I will pick up the TNRs where I left off before the holidays. My goal is to TNR every stray cat that lives at my apartment complex, and so far, I’ve done one side of the complex. My goal this year is to focus on the opposite side. Once I’m done with my complex, I plan to extend my operation to the apartments next to mine and keep going.

I volunteer with our local SPCA. Most recently I helped with a seizure of 30 horses, assisting my vet (who also volunteered her time) to pull coggins on each and every one of them before loading them on trailers. They were frightened and nervous and dangerous at times. They were starving, covered in rain rot, some could hardly stand. One was dead in an old manure filled barn. One more died after the seizure. Two mares then had miscarriages. It’s heartbreaking.
All are in the care of a local vet clinic now, slowly regaining strength and vitality, and eventually will be adopted.
I also volunteer my time and services to produce their quarterly newsletter along with other promotional printed pieces. I wish I could do more!

  586. Cynthia Says:

I sent letters to NASA protesting their plan to use monkeys in radiation experiments.

  587. Lana Henson Says:

I took some old blankets and towels to my local animal shelter for them to use in cages for the dogs.

  588. Susan Ward Says:

We live near a farm and are thus in proximity to a few stray cats. We have personally trapped and neutered 2 females and found homes for 3 kittens that arrived unexpectantly. We put food out for a cat we call our yard cat, who while she is not tame, she’s not quite feral either. We currently own 6 cats, all of which walked into our house and stayed! I swear we have a sign outside that only cats can read that says “cats welcome here”!

  589. Emily Says:

I have been raising funds for a local Walkathon benefitting animals in my town.

  590. Jill Says:

Hello: I’m a animal loving VEGAN and only support cruelty FREE companies! I also spend my off time volunteering at my local no kill cat shelter. I’m currently putting together a protest to take place in June against Cirque Estival - A circus that uses live animals in their act. ANIMALS ARE NOT OURS FOR ENTERTAINMENT! (This will be the second year for this protest, hoping to make a larger impact this year. I want to make my city on NO return zone!)

  591. Barbara Says:

    Gone vegetarian!

  592. Jill Says:

Vegan. Support cruelty FREE companies. Help out at the no kill cat shelter. Organizing a protest for a live animal circus for the second year.

  593. Holly Harle Says:

I have been a vegetarian for the past six years and have recently gone back to being vegan! I insist that all of my family’s toiletries and cleaning products are cruelty free and have no animal ingredients. I’m raising my daughter to be vegetarian as well. I cook often and post my results on facebook to encourage people I know to eat less meat and to show them it’s super easy! All of my four cats are rescued from shelters and we plan on getting more in the future. I have become very informed on the contents of vaccines and let all the vegan/veg people I know that these contain fetal chicken material and are not animal friendly in any way! I believe I live by example for many families that are nervous about raising their children vegan/veg. I know there can be a lot of pressure from others and the medical community to feed your children unhealthy amounts of dairy and meat and I show families how they can raise healthy and happy vegan/veg kids, stress free!! Our neighbors often leave their cat outside in the middle of winter for too long. We’ve started bringing him inside with us to keep him warm and I’m happy to report they got the message and have stopped leaving him out all night!!
I think one of the biggest things we can do for animals is to live by example. We can shout on rooftops all we want, but I really believe in the end you have to truly live what you believe and show others how much better of an existence it really is:D

  594. Kimberly Knapik Says:

I have three cats, one hamster, and a ton of fish. I take the time to go on our local website ALL the time because If I honestly could I would adopt every single animal that people were just “getting rid of” and it seems to happen more often then not in my community which is really sad to me. I think people need to be far more aware that if you take on the responsibility of a pet such as a cat.. they depend on you to be there for them and love and nurture them. When you abandon them or just give them away… it hurts your animals…. Just as much as you would be hurt if the same was done to you :(… please.. take care of your animals….

  595. jw Says:

I left some food for a stray animal.

I share my home with four cats, all rescues, often foster stray or sick cats and kittens, and manage Paws For Purrs Cat Rescue, an all volunteer non-profit rescue in southeastern WI. In just the last two years, I have helped a cat found lying beside the highway with three broken toes, saved the eyesight of a kitten with a very serious eye infection, and spayed/neutered, treated, and found permanent homes for over almost 100 cats and kittens. So helping animals is, always has been, and always will be part of my daily life.

  601. Jessi Coble Says:

  615. April Simerly Says:

I haven’t taken any isolated or specific action, but I try to live my life in the most animal and earth friendly way possible every single day. I’ve been a vegetarian for years, now working toward vegan, and am making an effort to green everything I do. The changes in my body and attitude have also inspired members of my family to take similar steps. I’m a member of The Kind Life website and every week I help my job promote a shelter animal that is up for adoption. I know what I’m doing makes an impact, however small.

  616. Lisa Says:

I’m almost vegan! (been vegetarian for 10 years) My husband and I have lost the whey protein and cheese. Now it’s working out the egg replacer in the baked goods. Also, we adopted a house rabbit from a friend who no longer could take care of the little bugger. We also volunteer at a donkey rescue here in Colorado. They are absolutely wonderful animals. Check it out here longhopes.org.

  617. KC Says:

Going for a walk with homeless dogs every day (:

  618. debbie Says:

I live in a rural, ranching community where dogs and cats are rarely fixed. I began a spay/neuter campaign by posting low cost options on the post office bulletin board (our cracker barrel!), providing my name and phone number for assistance and questions, loan crates and humane traps, etc. Although progress is slow, about 20 dogs/cats have been ‘fixed’ over the last several months.

  619. Audrey Elizabeth Pace Says:

  626. Pete Delorenzo Says:

I have and always will maintain my dedication to care for animals. I am constantly lobbying as an animal activist for their preservation, well being and prevention of cruelty. As the owner of three adopted pets, two dogs and a cat I know what a rewarding and loveable feeling it is to have them in my life. Animals are GOD’s creation and mankind was appointed to care for them….not abuse them. Therefore I am a strong supporter of PETA and the great work that they do for animals.
My most recent activities on behalf of animals has been to help with action alerts and signing of petitions against the lab experiments on animals, cruelty to animals,to abolish all puppy mills,to stop the slaughter of innocent animals and preserve our endangered species. I also fight for animal legal rights.
May we all find it in our hearts to be responsible towards our furry friends.

I try to promote kindness and respect for animals to everyone I know.

  633. Anaiah Young Julsrud Says:

Well…last year we rescued 5 Chuihuahua mix puppies set to be put to sleep at our pound, bottle fed them from 2 weeks old on, got them all spayed/neutered and found them their perfect owners. I also rescued a Miniature Pinscher from the streets of my neighborhood whose owners no longer wanted him, we kept him and he is now loved and spoiled, his name is Jake. And then between me and my husband, my parents and sister we rescued and found the owners or new families for countless dogs and cats we picked off the streets. We always have them micro-chip checked and try to find the owners first and then if not try to make sure they get spayed or neutered if we are going to place them.
    this year so far…we have:
rescued 5 Catahoula puppies that were to be put down at the pound, all of which we found wonderful forever homes for once they were grown and spayed and neutered.
new years eve we brought in 3 Basset Hounds from the cold and got them micro-chipped the next day and found their owner.
3 weeks ago I found a German Shepherd and her 3 puppies who were just wondering the streets.
I kept them a couple nights and then we got them all spayed and into our local Humane Society to find homes.
last week I found a black Lab who was traveling with a little Benji dog, it was freezing out that night so I kept them a couple nights until I could get them to the vet to be Micro-chipped, the little Benji dog was and we were able to contact his owners, they were so happy to see them and had been looking for them, even went to the pound, the girl even hugged us when we dropped them off.
Yesterday, I read on Craigslist about someone who had a tiny little Chihuahua that they couldn’t care for any longer, we went on got her last night, we are keeping her because we have a tiny little Chihuahuas named Roxy & Pixie and know how to care for them. (4 dogs now….lol) We are thinking of naming her Birdie because she is so little and likes to perchn your shoulder.
The other things we do are all making a very careful resolve to only use cruelty free products of any sort and make donations to rescue/animal rights organizations. And my mom, sister, and myself are all Vegetarian and I am working very hard to become Vegan. My husband has also decided to try to become Vegetarian and has not eaten meat in weeks now. My dad is working on cutting down, hopefully we can push him over to our side too.

Together we visit nursing homes, adult daycare centers for special-needs residents, and local youth programs to enrich lives and educate people about the abilities of special-needs pets. Many treat such animals as throw-away pets and we are determined to change this mindset. With a little self-education and dedication, anyone can give such animals healthy, happy, and fulfilling lives.

  647. Katie Freeman Says:

My fiance, a redneck Southern-bred boy, and I just made the leap into veganism! We gave the money to the Morrocco Animal Control. They are trying to build a large cat room. I try to sign all the petitions for helping wildlife. This year my 10yr old daughter did a science project on “Why it is important to preserve nature?” (One of her reasons is that animals use nature for food and housing. Won 2nd place.) I have 4 adopted cats and 5 adopted dogs and 1 iguana that a person was going to throw outside. Her name is Ziggy and she is so gentle. Well, thanks for letting me share my story, and to all the other animal lovers good luck and my God bless you.

  651. Sheree S Says:

Last summer one of my cats ran away so I naturally went to the pound to see if I could find him, but alas he was not there.Shortly after an elderly man came in with his cat and stated he was evicted and could no longer take care of his beautiful cat.I took the cat home who was oviously sick his name was Dalewood. He had kitty leukemia and died 6 mths. later.:( I bought a cherry tree and buried him near it swaddled in a baby blanket. Soon after my great aunt had 2 dogs that supposedly needed to be watched for 2 wks, and the months went by…they were covered with matted hair and urine, we took them to the groomers and they were extremely happy to get the pounds of hair off of them. I massaged them all the time knowing they had spent almost a year without any care exept food and water. My mentally impaired aunt soon came for her dog Murphy(who had bitten everyone but me) and I found a home for Albert. During this time my fiance left me because I refused to take them to the pound.I love animals and always have. I am a vegetarian, and have thought deeply about opening a no kill shelter because basically that’s what my house is, and I love each and everyone of them as well as learned from them as well.I click everyday to help feed the animals on PETA, I am not wealthy….God gives me what I need to accomplish what I do!

She was rescued from a shed when she was 9 months old- she was locked in there with her mom and siblings- having never seen the light of the sunshine or breathing fresh air. She is my best friend. I recently adopted a kitten who was homeless- her brother and sister were killed by a dog. So Shelby and I opened our home to her. They love eachother dearly.

  675. Hope Ryckman Says:

I stopped eating them! Yes..I became a vegetarian! I also have rescued many feral cats..a couple I have adopted! Also I support our local happy cat haven..a non profit association that takes care of abandoned or injured cats and finds home for them! Some older cats that are not adoptable live their life out in this home! I often provide food and treats and am also a volunteer helping out feeding them, changing litter boxes and just giving them affectionate hugs too!

  676. Neil Ryckman Says:

I recently flew from my home town to another province! My son told me a feral kitten was living in his back alley where he rents a house! he had been feeding it, but was concerned that it was outside in the -35 degree weather! I flew there to rescue this kitten as my heart went out to ti! Though my son tried to catch it..it eluded him! As it is he could not take another cat himself..having just rescued a feral cat and 3 of her babie! When there, I bought a safe cage to catch the kitten in! When that was done..I flew back to my home and took the kitten to the vet. After a few appointments for shots, being spayed and de-flead and de-wormed..my ‘free kitten’ cost me over $1000! BUT she is a joy and so much fun to watch as her energetic little self gallops around the house making me chuckle with glee! the joy she brings, and her affection was worth every penny I spent and more!

  677. Catherine Says:

I have searched and searched for a humane way to get rid of mice. Others in my building were frustrated with me because I would not use traps.

At first we used a product of coyote urine ~ I called the company to find out how they obtained the urine, and was satisfied that it was humane.

But, it wore off and needed to be replaced.

Then I discovered the most amazing repellent ~ pepperiment and spearment essential oils.

Most amazing. We have not had mice since using this!

  678. Kat Says:

I volunteer at an animal shelter every week!

  679. Elizabeth Hernandez Says:

    2 Things I’ve Done
    1-This is for one animal.
Everyday for 2 months that I drove to and from work I would see this dog on someone’s back deck with a wooden dog house that had the top planks under the roof missing all around the house. It was cold and it rained a lot. A few days before Christmas I boought that dog a house, treats and a bunch of stuffed animals and left it on the owners’ doorstep with a Christmas card from my 2 dogs. Now when I drive by I’m not so pained.
2-This is for the rest of the animals
I went directly from eating meat to going vegan Jan 1, 2010. It’s the best thing I have ever morally and ethically not to mention how much it has done for my health.

I took a whole bunch of stuffed animals to the animal shelter.

  684. Meg W. Says:

I have taught all of the students in my class to rescue bugs when they are trapped inside. Now when we find an insect in our classroom we quickly scoop it up and let it out the window instead of stomping on it. It doesn’t seem like much but I think that these kids will always remember to respect sentient beings because of this example.

  685. Andrea Says:

I have recently rescued my two rabbits, one from a petting zoo where she was dumped by someone who didn’t want her (long story), and the other had been through 5 different homes because no one had time to acknowledge the ‘black’ bunny. I’m also a vrey active supporter of the Make Mine Chocolate campaigne (www.makeminechocolate.org) which is a site to promote awareness about easter rabbits (see website!) I have also just joined as a member of the Peta Action team, wrote letters to various recipients (regarding animals used in testing, experiments, schools, and the seal slaughter) and I’ve become Vegan and love it!! :) I love animals :)

  689. Susan K Says:

When I order coupons online from sites like save.ca I order any pet food coupons as well as what I want. Send them to the local humane society who can use them like cash at a local pet store. I figure if the poor animals are already there we can at least help them get some food.

  690. Jonathan Says:

  697. Kirsten Hexberg Says:

I have a companion animal, a cat named Emily, whom due to our current living situation is solely an indoor cat. I’m a full-time student and am not home all the time to play as much as I’d like. I had noticed that lately she’d been SUPER into hanging out under the bed, so one day, before leaving for class, I built her the COOLEST Under-the-Bed Fort EVER! I put pillows all around on the floor but left places where she could look out. I draped blankets over the top. I put her favorite toys laden with cat nip. I turned a paper bag into a tunnel. She spent the next three days in that fort, attacking my toes whenever I walked by. It made for a very happy Emily and a very happy me.

  698. Sarah Says:

I told the lifeguard at the beach about a sick pelican, and they brought the pelican to a rehabilitation center to recover.

  699. Courtney Says:

  701. Sasha Regalado Says:

As a hispanic living in Miami, my family has always depended on animals for substinance. As a young child, I knew that I did not want to be that way. Therefore, when I was old enough for an allowance, I told my family that I was going to be a vegetarian. After many arguments, fights, and tricks, they finally gave in. Though not supportive in my decision, they have come to accept it. I am proud to say that I became vegetarian in January of 2007 and have recently become vegan now that I am in college. I do not have much money, but I am committed to this cause. I purchase my cruelty-free shower and beauty products online and, though they are expensive, I know that buying cheaper, non- cruelty- free products is not fair for the innocent animals. I volunteer to take care of my neighbors pets when they are away and try to advocate the idea of equality both with my friends and in my school assignments. I would really appreciate some free cruelty-free products to aid in lowering in my vegan-friendly expenses. Thank you for your time and consideration. “Animals deserve basic, fundamental rights!!!”

  702. Mallery Says:

I saved a bird that could only take off on water. He was stuck on the road. I took him back to the water and he flew away

I have volunteered at our local Animal Shelter and am currently trying to get another volunteer position at the Adoption centre.
I have two cats, have grown up with cats, and feed our hungry neighborhood cats when they get cold and neglected by neighbors. :(
I recently saw the movie The Cove and was horrified at the dolphon injustice. I got all of my friends, family and co-workers to sign the petition to end it! Also, I just signed a petition to send the Seal Hunt - it’s absolutely inhumane!

  704. Mandy Says:

  707. Brittany Says:

I rescused two kittens - they were barn kitties and when the owners took them in to get fixed the vet ‘accidentally’ declawed them too. Horrible - but they needed a home so now my home is there home and I love them and spoil them!

  716. Rebecca Neufeld Says:

I have been animal lover and an advocate for the rights of animals as long as a I can remember. But recently I feel that I have began taking my love of animals to all new levels not only in the care of my pets but also through volunteer work. I volunteer at the Calgary Zoo doing animal care tasks and hope to become a docent this year to further educate people about animals and the issues they encounter and how people may help. I also have volunteered at a small animal vet clinic last summer, and will be volunteering at a large animal vet clinic as well as a small animal vet clinic. I am a student at university but I make sure that I am environmental and try to spread awareness. Overall I try to help animals in every aspect of my life.

  721. Kelsey Says:

I do something everyday by not eating animal products, not wearing/purchasing leather and by not supporting companies that participate in animal testing.

  722. Nya Says:

I work as a primary school teacher and always try to incorporate activities into my classes to make children aware that animals have feelings. Last year I managed to convince nearly half of the 30 kids in my 5th grade class to stop eating Kentucky Fried Chicken, and 10 became complete vegetarians!

This year I’m in kindergarten and the main focus is to teach children not to kill, but rather remove unwanted insects in a friendly way.

  723. Katrelya Angus Says:

At age 7, back in the 1960’s, I became fascinated with the works of C.S. Lewis. Long before PETA was even founded, I discovered that Lewis was completely opposed to animal research, and from that moment on, I have completely avoided all animal-tested items.

  724. Veg4Life Says:

I am a strict vegan and love how it feels knowing I am making compassionate choices with every aspect of my life. It disgusts me how the world is so dependent on animals for EVERYTHING!! From food, to clothes to make-up to cleaning products. It makes me so sad….I think of these animals on a daily basis, how they are used, abused and exploited. I will have nothing to do with anything that involves this cruel and inhumane industry. My only hope is that people will finally open their eyes to what they don’t see, to really educate themselves on the choices they make. Together, we can make a difference, and if you haven’t gone vegan yet, you need to begin TODAY!!

Well, I’m quite proud to say that I’m now celebrating my first year being vegetarian!
I was quite a big step to take since my whole family is in the farming industry. I also stopped wearing or buying leather or animal-tested products.
I always wanted to volunteer at a shelter, but I have realy bigs alergies, so I try to do my part simply by picking garbages in the neigborhood! reading all the other comments gave my ideas to help animals in many different ways! Finally, i believe that the best thing to do in order to help animals is to stay informed about this issue!

  728. Benjam Says:

I am first time vegetarian. It is hard to get used to,but I will survive.Animals won’t if we keep eating them.

  729. Liz Russell Says:

  749. Tiffany Johnson Says:

It’s nothing big, but I just recently moved to Pittsburgh for school. There’s a lot of pigeons & not really many other types of animals or wildlife around because I’m in the middle of the city, but one day me & a couple of friends were sitting outside in the winter, while it was raining, & noticed that there was a little chirp coming from somewhere. We looked around some more & then noticed that there was a little baby bird (that looked nothing like a pigeon) crying in a corner. We scooped it up, wrapped it a bunch of clothes that we had to spare, & began looking for places that would help the little bird. All of the humane societies in the area complained that there was nothing they could do about it, & to just leave it outside. We refused. So we found a box to put it in with our clothes, & gave it to our sweet security guard, Maggie. Little did she know, the janitors had threw the box in the garbage, but she got them to find it & get the baby out. Luckily, it was unharmed. The next morning, she drove our baby bird to an aviary where as we know, he or she is very happy & is doing very well.

  750. lance Says:

    great products!!!

  751. joy Says:

I am a strong vegetarian. I do not force my lifestyle on others, but I do encourage them to think about the items they consume and about the horrible treatment of the animals they do eat. I have had one friend turn vegetarian and two more than do not consume red meat anymore! This summer when visiting a sick friend in Texas, I decided to visit a slaughter house. I don’t have a stomach made of steal but I do have a strong compassion for animals and their treatment. I thought if I were going to talk the talk that I should walk the walk. And I thought a walk through a slaughter house to see the torment in front of me would help make my witness stronger to others.

I volunteer at a local animal shelter during my free time. I enjoy helping with the adoption of animals.

I also take care of two dogs that I truly enjoy.

I recycle–apparently there is a huge vortex outside of Hawaii that collects our disposed plastics. I have not personally seen this vortex and I am actually going to research it after I submit my comment. But this vortex in the ocean collects and keeps the un-recycled plastics and the plastics over time form back into pellets that birds and fish consume. The pellets are not digestible for sea life and therefore kill the animals that have consumed the plastics.

I am going to three trees this summer. I know that’s more about the environment and not animals–but it helps all living beings!!!

    Thanks for reading about me.
I love animals and try to do what I can to help them and the environment :)

  752. Jessica Wallin Says:

I’m a vegan and a graduating film student- tomorrow I will shoot my thesis film, which focuses on compassion when my characters come to a poultry farm and realize they have no right to kill the animals.

Students and parents donated pet food, pet toys, treats, bowls, pet shampoo, blankets, kitty litter, pet beds, etc. which I donated to local animal rescue groups. I coordinated Humane Ed. Day at my elementary school where the entire faculy and staff dressed down and donated $5.00 each to local animal shelters. Spent the day doing Humane Ed. read alouds, writing activities, learning centers so that children will understand that animal and human needs are very similar. Kindness and compassion toward animals transfers to kindness and compassion toward all living things.

  772. Andrea Schwartz Says:

I have the extreme pleasure of working at an animal shelter for cats, dogs and exotics. It pays peanuts, but after living on this planet for half a century and have been through more jobs (in the corporate world) than one can imagine, I have NEVER been so happy in my life in now helping homeless animals! I have three cats and one dog — all strays. Have become a vegetarian and am planning to become totally vegan. That is thanks to the videos posted at PETA. I look at the meat aisle in my grocery in such a different light now! I can’t believe that mankind could slaughter these gentle creatures in such horrible ways just so we can eat them. I also am learning more and more about buying cruelty-free products. Thank you PETA for helping me to living a healthier and kinder way of life! Next is to work on my friends and family!

  773. Kim Says:

I’m vegetarian. I feed a stray cat in my neighborhood, feed my neighbor’s cats when they don’t have kibble, give treats to a dog down the street and give lots of love to my 2 kitties (both strays that I took in).

I just recently became a vegetarian. I have been sharing all posts that PETA puts out about animal cruelty with my friends and family. I rescued my cat Gabby from the local pound and she is my best friend and comfort. I had Gabby spayed and next week I am having my puppy Hyde nuetered. I always rescue turtles from the road so they wont get run over. When I’m mowing, I break for frogs and my neigbhors think Im crazy! I release the frogs back into the woods so I wont run over them! I don’t use products that are animal tested and I inform everyone not to use them as well!
    Peace & LOVE

  790. Gemini Says:

I’ve been vegetarian since 1996 and make sure people understand I did it because of my love of animals instead of health concerns. I am boycotting Canadian products until they ban the annual seal slaughter. I purchase skincare/haircare/cosmetics only from companies that don’t conduct animal-testing and am switching over to vegan cosmetic brushes. I purchase only shoes, bags, and belts that are synthetic materials instead of leather.

  791. Ellen Tuttle Says:

Three years ago on Christmas eve I was looking out the window at the sun setting. I saw a little black shape at the mailbox. For an instant, I thought it was my ‘late’ Buddy- one of my first (two) dogs that I’d adopted at the age of 30, from the ASPCA in Manhattan. A kindly volunteer had convinced me to see him, even though I’d requested a “she” to go with my adopted male hound mix. I’d heard I’d be better off with a ’she’ because males “could fight”. To make a long story short, Buddy looked like a rat and I was scared of him when I first saw him; he was skin and bones and all his fur was gone from mange. The wonderful ASPCA doctor Rosenthal said he’d care for him so he’d be free from disease, and three weeks later, at no cost to me, he was mine! He had ended up living for 23 years…and had died in my arms moments before we were going to ‘euthanize’ him. He’d saved me from the pain of putting him into the other world. He died in my arms in the waiting room at the vet at 23 years old and I was lucky to feel his last breath—his soul went right into my lap and he’d passed over to heaven.

That Christmas I thought he came back to me. But it wasn’t him. Although I know he had something to do with it. It was another dog–also a dachshund, but this time a pure-bred. With no home. A red Christmas collar. He sat and wagged his tail at me as I left my house into the cold Tallahssee Christmas air, and kissed me to no end when I pet him. He was mine. We looked for his owner, flyers, ads, etc. I was lucky no one answered. I knew he was ill–he drank so much water..he peed so much! He’d get me up at 3am to pee and really cared about not making in the house. He peed blood one day and another time dropped to his knees on a walk. I researched his symptoms and was right-he had severe stage 4 kidney disease. Someone had abandoned him when he needed humans the most. We kept our angel. I named him PETEY because in a younger day I could see him with a little straw hat on a beach with a banjo!!

Petey left this world exactly three years later, this past Christmas. There is not one day that goes by when I don’t miss his liquid brown eyes, his warm fat belly, his warmth of skin, his submissive ways (*to my other two dogs). When Petey said goodbye to me his mouth was so dry, he couldn’t kiss me, but his nose touched my lips and he gazed up at the sunshine and I knew he wanted to be in heaven. He and Buddy are playing and chewing on bones again. My loves, my very fortunate life, has been forever changed by my stray ‘boyfriends.’ My husband doesn’t know, but in my next live(s) they will each share my love again, perhaps even at the same time, and those kisses, I know, are forever.

  792. Ellen Tuttle Says:

please consider my comment for the contest to win a basket. IN THE NAME OF MY LOVES, my late dogs, who gave so much and asked for so little.

Hi, I’ve recently taken in 3 rabbits that needed a home. We’ve built an awesome environment for them and I am educating myself about their well-being and care. 797. Nycole Says:

I just took a huge bag of paper to recycle in these community paper recycle bins. This will prevent us from needing to cut down as many trees and from taking away as many homes that belong to birds and other animals that live in trees.

  799. Maria Tzavaras Says:

I recently went on a much needed weeklong vacation in Jamaica. I anticipated relaxation and sun. 802. Laura Hadland Says:

We rehomed a rescue cat that turned out to be pregnant, then helped her raise the kittens, found them all great homes at 9 weeks and ensured that she was spayed as soon as was safe to stop it happening again so that more unwanted cats aren’t brought into the world and badly treated. In fairness, it was a selfish act as we have kept one of the kittens and they are a great little family. I am so glad we have done everything we can to give her a better life and to give the kittens the best possible start and future.

  803. Natalie Says:

Three weeks ago I stumbled upon a video that drastically changed my views on animals products. I have become vegan to help save all the animals I love so much. I’ve been doing lots of research on the impact I can make… telling everyone little tidbits I learn here and there… And taking very good care of my Rebel Terrier, JACK!!! He was already one of the happiest dogs I’ve ever known but I do my part daily to make sure he stays that way. I love my dog, and all animals.

  810. Kelly Says:

I recently made the transition from a vegetarian to a vegan diet. To celebrate, I made the most fantastic vegan mojito cupcakes and shared with my friends and family. I am retiring from Animal Control on April 30th after 30 years with the City of Laurinburg. I have been active in using our state free spay/neuter plan by transporting the animals to the vet for their owners.
